BUSSES: A letter was received from the Northern Indiana Transit Company informing the Board that they would be unable to have a representative appear before the Board on this date, but will have a representative of their Company appear before the Board on December 19, 1949. RAILROADS: • A letter was received from the Grand Trunk Railroad System relative to the complain of switching at Olive and Sample Streets wherein they state their crews have been asked to avoid all switching possible at the Olive and Sample Street crossing during peak traffic hours and should conditions require them to be there at that time, they have bee instructed to permit all auto and pedestrian traffic to clear over the crossing every three minutes. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: An Excavation Bond in the amount of $1,000.00 was approved and ordered filed for J. B. Fleck & Sons and Company. A Contractor's Bond in the amount of $1,000.00 was approved and ordered filed for Peter Heyvaert. Mrs. Carl Amberg, 1758 Eclipse Place; Mrs. Louis Lockmandy, 1758 N. Freemont Street � and Mrs. Joseph Lockmandy, 1741 N. Meade Street appeared before the Board to remonstrate against the mining of gravel and the selling of top soil from vacant lots in the vicinity of their property. The matter was discussed but no action was taken. The following letter was received ff'om the Board of County Commissioners: i Freda G. Noble, Clerk Board of Public Works & Safety • South Bend, Indiana. Dear Madam: Your recent letter concerning the repair of the Logan Street bridge was considered by the Board of Commissioners. This matter has been before the Board of Commissioners i on a number of occasions over a period of years, and every instance, the County Attorney has hdvised the Board that the responsibility of the repair of bridges lies with the cities and is definitely not the responsibility of the- County. . We urgently urge the city administration of South Bend and Mishawaka to expedite these much needed repairs as we are informed the condition of the bridge is definitely a hazard to city vehicular traffic. .
