The Doard directed that letters be sent to the 7�cw Yorh Central Rail Road;
Grand Tr-onk ?,-lcstcrn Rail Road; Jersey, Indiana and Illinois Railroad requesting each
of them to have a representative appear before the Board at the next regular meeting to
discuss ways and means of carrying out the project of maintaining their grade crossings
in South Bcnd.

There was a. petition presented to improve the lst .-II-ley south of Ewing Avenue from
Caroline Street East One block, by widening. This was referred to the City Engineer.
A petition to improve South TIci-more Street in the 40'0, 500 and 600 blocks by gra.di:
oiling or black topping. A letter ',•ra� went to the petitioners informin them that the
Street Department will grade the street as soon as convenient but resident property

A petition for sewer facilities betvIcen the alley east of Michigan and Fellows

The Clerk was directed to advertise for bids for an all metal building to be
constructed for the Street Department. Bids to be returnable on November.14th1 1949.

RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA:
That it is desirable to Vacate the following: 1. Tge First East-West
alley South of Linden Avenue from Falcon Street Westward to the center
line of Section 9, except where the North and South alleys cross, 2.
The first East-West alley North of Colfax Avenue from Falcon Street West
Ward to the center line of Section 91 excppt where"the North and South
alleys cross. 3, Colfax Avenue from Falcon Stret Westward to the center
line of Section 9, except where the North and South alleys cross, any
except the 18 center feet to be used as a public alley. 4.. The first
