The Board approved plans of the Coelpaert Realty Company for the paving of Fairway
Street from Sample Street to Juniper Place, from Juniper Place to Lombardy, also Parkway
and Juniper Place, Ford Street from the Alley east of Juniper to Lombardy.
The Board approved the plans and profile drawings of the Hoover Avenue Sewer.
PARKING METER DEPARTMENT:
Mr. Maurice C. Vennet, Auditor, presented his report for the week ending August 20,
1949.
STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Melton Brannon, Superintendent, was present and matters pertain-
ing to his department were discussed.
The Board granted permission for the Sherman-Schaus-Freeman Company to park three
new Studebaker Trucks in front of the Indiana Club on August 22nd and 23rd, 1949. Also
permission to park a new Studebaker car in frontof the Gilbert Store and George A. Wyman
store on Monday August 22, 1949.
The Board accepted the bid of the Cayuga. Rock Salt Co., Inc., of Meyers, New York
for 300 ton of rock salt at $17.312 per ton and also the bid of Wilson Taylor, 3014 E.
Hastings Street South Bend, Indiana. for hauling of salt from box cars to the street
department for 43.00 per ton.
CEMETERY DEPARTMENT: Mr. Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, was present and matters pertaini:
to his department were discussed.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned
at 10:00 A. M.

TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT:.fir, Ernest C. Miller ;Traffic Engineer, was present and matters per-
taining to his department were discussed.
A letter was received from, the American Bus Lines asking for the removal of Parking
Meter #1102 in front of their depot at 322 East Jefferson Street. This was referred to
Mr. Miller for investigation and report.
A petition to prohibit heavy trulk traffic in the 1000 block of West Dubai! Avenue
was referred to Mr. Muller for investigation and report.
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT:
Contractor&s Bonds in the amount of $1,000.00 were approved and ordered filed for Harry
M. Verkler, Everett Lee Richardson, William F. Myers, Josph Miva and George Syson,and
Ralph Syson, Co-partners.

The Board received a. communication from the Common Council wherein they indicated that
residents from the East side of the City appeared before the Council to complain about
the dump located on South Bend Avenue. The Council recommended that the dump be closed
for a month and the Board of Public Works and Safety was directed to solve the problem.
NOW, THEREFORE, Thomas Luce and Harry Folk, Owner and Operator respectively of a
dump located in the 1300 block of South Bend .Avenue were notified by registered mail
that the dump must be closed for a period of thirty days (30) effective this date.
Authority to re -open the dump will not be granted unless the owner and operator are

ble to present the Board with a program of operation which -will eliminate the nuisance
hat is now being created. I
A communication was received from the Common Council indicating that the residents
of the West Side of the City complained of the condition of the pavement of Albert Street
and near -by streets and they referred the matter to the Board of Public Works and Safety
for study. The Board discussed this matter and Mr. Andrysiak, City Engineer, as directed
to do everything in his power to co-operate with the Common Council to try to work out a
solution for conditions now existing on Albert Street and other streets.
VACATION RESOLUTION No. 2596
• Mr. Raymond Andrysiak, City Engineer, filed primary assessment roll showing the
awards of damages and the assessments of benefits in the matter of the vacation of
part of the Alley west of VERNON STREET from Dubail Avenue north a distance of one
hundred fourteen (1141) feet under Vacation Resolution No. 2596.
The following property may be injuriously or beneficially affected by such vacation:
Lots numbered 14 to 19 and 27 to 33 inclusive, Leer's First Addition
also
• ! Lots numbered 21, 22 and 23 Lihcoln School Addition.
In the above named assessment -roll, the Board hereby orders that it will meet in
the City Hall at 11:00 A. M. on the 19th day of September, 1949, for the purpose of
hearing and receiving remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by said
vacation, and the Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together with the
amount of damages awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners by
publishing same on the 2nd day of September and on the 9th day of September, 1949, in
the South Bend Daily Tribune and the Weekly Mirror.
