' The Engineering Depart- ment is directed to prepare a Resolution for same. To The Honorable Members of? Board of Public Safety, City Hall' South Benda Gentlemen: The American and De Luxe Bus Lines are using our premises located at L. 1,% East & Jefferson Blvd for off street parking and load- ing and unloading of passengers. They have used our offices as a waiting room for patrons. Wei the Yellow Cab Co have leased to the American Bus Lines the building located at 322 East Jefferson, next door to us to the east, to be used as a depot and restaurant for their patrons. To provide a more convenient access to the building and to eliminate the possibility of congestion and accidents in the area now used by them, we propose to use the lot east of their building at 322 E. Jefferson Blvd for the above purpose mentioned. Therefore, we would like to have your consideration and consent to remove about 18 feet of curb, which is necessary to enter the lot. Scanlon I the Board granted the request of the Yellow Cab Company and on the recommendation of the City Engineer permission was granted for a 14 ft. driveway with a V foot radius ;ion either side. respective, Mr. Thomas Luce and I�lr. Harry Folk, owner and operator/of a dump located at 1324 '.South Bend Avenue appeared before the Board. After a full discussion the Board laid !doi�m certain rules and regulations to be followed in the operation of the dump. Fire ,in the dump is to be confined to a small area in the lowest point of the dump. The oper- ator i's to check each load to be dumped to see there' is no garbage therein. A road is to be built into the dump to the area to be used for burning paper. The management was :!warned that violation of the rules would result in the closing of the dump. Rieth who being duly sworn upon oath deposes and says he is acquainted with the Rieth-Riley Construction Company the party to whom was awarded the contract and who performed the work under Improvement Resolution 1%To. 2573-1948. That he is familiar with and personally knows the requirements of the plans and specifications of said improvement resolution and further knows that the said Rieth- Riley Construction Company in the performance of said work complied with all the terms and conditions of said plans and specifications in every 'parti cular, and that the material used was of the character, kind, quantity and quality required therein and ac- cording to and under the direction of the Board of Public Works and Safety. The • I general character of the improvement, the street, alley or public place on which it has been made, and the terminal points thereof, are as follows: JACKSON STREET fom the north line of Sample Street to the south line of Dunham Street by draining, grading and paving the roadway with a Class "C", Type One (1) pavement. There is on file in the office of the City Controller of said City an assessment roll with the names of the owners and description of property subject to be assessed with the amount of the prima facia assessment, and can be seen in the office of said City Controller. The Board of Public iTorks and Safety of said City, at the office of the Board in said City, will on the 8th day of August, 1949, at 10:00 o'clock A. M. C. S. Noble, Clerk A contract between the City of South Bend and the Rieth-Riley Construction Company as approved by the Board for the paving of Thirty -Second Street from the north line of Pleasant Street to the south line of Vine Street under Improvement Resolution No. 2591 - 1949. The Board also approved a performance bond and a maintenance bond on the same. This being the date set for recieving bids on the paving of Olive Street at the Grace Street intersection the following bid was opened and publically read: A Non-Collussion Affidavit , Certified Check $100.00 Harry N. Barnes, Accompanied this Bid. South Bend, Indiana Excavations ..... Concrete Pavement Sidewalk 1.25 per cu. yd/ 3.50 per sq. yd. .35 per sq. ft. A petition was received asking for the installation of a traffic signal at the inte section of South Bend Avenue and Notre Dame Avenue. As this is a. State Highway the petition was ref Bred to Mr. Miller who will in turn refer it to the State Highway Com- mission. BUS ROUTES: A petition was filed with the Boa.rd asking for bus service on Lincoln Way' West to the Butternut Road. This was refered to the Northern Indiana Transit, Inc. with a. re- quest of a report from them. ENGINEERING DEPA1TI•21NT: Contractor's Bonds in the amount of 4?1,000 were approved and ordered filed for the Reed Construction Company; John Levandoski; Lionel R. Martin and William Kaman. A petition to pave,an alley between Kemble Avenue and Douglas Street was referred to the City Engineer for inspection and report. VACATIO'tN RESOLUTION IO. 2596 B.ESOLVED BY TIC BOARD OF PUBLIC VIORKS OF TIC' CITY OF SOUTH BLIND, INDIANA: That it is desirable to vacate the following: Part of the Alley west of Vernon Street from Dubail North a distance of One Hundred Fourteen (1141) feet. e The following property may be injuriously effected by such vacation: Lots numbered 14 to 19 and 27 to 33 inclusive, Leer's First addition also Lots Numbered 21, 22 and 23 Lincoln School Addition. . Notice of this resolution will be published on the 5th day of August and on the 12 day of August, 1949 in the South Bend Daily Tribune and the :•Ieekly Mirror. This Board, at its office in the City Hall on the 22nd day of August, 1949 at 11:00 A. M. will hear and receive remonstrances from all persons interested in or af- fected by these proceedings.
