The following petition was received from the Northern Indiana Transit Company, Inc: Honorable Board of Public Works & Safety, City of South Bend, Indiana 214 North Main Street, South Bend, Indiana. Gentlemen: By request of the Bendix Field Airport Commission your Honorable Body was petitioned by the • • • • 555 Northern Indiana Transit, Inc., to inaugurate bus service to Bendix Field -St. Joseph County Airport beginning Saturday, June 4, 1949, between the hours of 7:00 A. 14. and 9:00 A. M. and 4:00 P. M. to 6:00 P. M. on a trial basis. During the week from June 18 to June 24,.in- clusive, 1949, a count of passengers handled on the line gave a result of 101. The mileage operated was The bus mile of 336 miles/ cost of operation pper Northern Indiana Transit is 400. 400 times 335 give a result of $134.40 less $15.15 income equals $118.90 a loss for that week's operation, The patronage on the line does not justify its contin- uance, therefore, the Northern Indiana Transit rspectfully petitions your Honorable Body for the discontinuance of this operation on Friday, July 22, 1949. I ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Contractor's Bond in the amount of $1,000 were approved and ordered filed for S-L-A-B Construction Company, Inc, Casimer Jerzakowski and Benjamin Brothers, Melvin L. Green. An Excavation Bond in the amount of $5,000.00 was approved and ordered filed for the Chicago, South Shore and South Bend Railroad Company. i • The Board approved a plat of Section 1 of Belleville Unit "A" addition to the City of South Bend. This is on file in the Board of Works and recorded in the Recorder's Office of St. Joseph County in Book 17, Page "B". I ' The Board directed that letters be sent to Thomas Lunce, Owner and Harry Folkm Operator of a dump located at 1324 South Bend Avenue informing them that a Resolution had been passed by the Board of Public Works and Safety whereby all dumping of any kind or nature at the above located dump must be stopped immediately. This resolution was enacted as an emergency measure. B6th men were notified to appear before the Board on July 25, 1949 at 11:00 o'clock A. M. At which time the Board will consider the man- agement of the dump and the terms and conditions upon which further dumping will be • permitted. RESOLUTION ADOPTING FINAL ASSESSMENT ROLL No. 2571, 1948 South Bend, Indiana July 181 1949 Be It Resolved, By the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that the Primary or Preliminary Assessment Roll adopted by the Board on the 5th day of July, 1949, for the improvement of LIBERTY STREET from south line of Western Ave- nue to north line of Sample Street by draining, grading and paving the roadway with a Class "C" Type Four°(4) Pavement, be and the same is in all things confirmed. The general character of the Improvement, the street, alley, or public place on which it has been made, and the terminal points thereof, as as follows: TWENTY-FIFTH (25th) STREET from the north line of Mishawaka Avenue to the south property line of Lots "A" and "B" in Hastings, Woodward and Gray's Addition. There is on file in the office of the City Controller of said City an assessment roll with the names of the owners and description of property subject to be assessed with the amount of the prima facia assessment, and can be seen in the office of said City Controller. The Board of Public Works and Safety of said City, at the office of the Board in said City, will on the 1st day of August, 1949, at 10:00 o'clock A. M. C. S.
