HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/13/1949 Board of Public Works Minutes535 ENGINEER'S REPORT South Bend, Indiana June 9, 1949 The Board of Public Works & Safety, City of South Bend, Indiana Gentlemen: • In the matter of the Bids for the improvement of Hamden Court from north line of LaSalle Avenue to south line of alley north of LaSalle Avenue in accordance wtih Improvement Resolution No. 2595, 1949, Gassed by this Board on May 23_, 1949. We hereby report that we have examined the several Bids submitted to the Board on June 8, 1949 and find that the Reed Construction Co., Mishawaka, Indiana has the lowest and best bid for Class "C" Type 1-Portland Cement Concrete Pavement that the Rieth-Riley Construction Compa.ny,,South Bend, Indiana has the lowest and best bid for Class t'C" Type 4-Compacted Aggregate Base, Bituminous Concrete Surface Pavement. , We recommend that the kind of Pavement placed on the above Street be Class "C"' Type 1-Portland Cement Concrete. T and publicly opened and considered all bids for the improvement of Hamden Court from north line of La Salle Avenue to the South line of Alley north of La Salle Avenue in accordance with Improvement Resolution No. 2595, 1949, passed by this Board on May �3, 1949. Mrs. Walter Clark 414 E. Howard Street, presented a petition asking that Howard Street between Niles .venue and Notre Dame Avenue be made a through street and to erect stop signs at all intersecting streets in these blocks. This was referred to Mr. Miller for investigation and report. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Contractor's Bond in the amount of $1,000.00 were approved and ordered filed for Gino Vannoni & Sons Construction Co, Mishawaka, Indiana, Ralph E. Keller, Jr., Henry J. Fisette and Floyd Barrier. Mr. Val Olshewski was granted a temporary permit for the erection of a canopy on the Tribune Building on Lafayette Blvd. dur$ng the period of the construction of the addition to the Tribune Building. NOTICE TO CONTRACTORS; No. 2591, 1949 TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: South Bend, Indiana June 17, 1949 June 24, 1949 Notice is hereby given, that the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Sou Bend, Indiana., on the 5th day of July 1949, at the hour of 10:00 A.M.C.S.T. at the offic of the Board, in the City Hall, in said City, will open and consider sealed bids, and designate by preliminary order the kind of pavement to be used, for the following des- cribed Street Improvement, as provided for in Improvement Resolution No. 2591, 1949, duly passed by said Board on April 25, 1949 and May 23, 1949, respectively, to -wit: Thirty Second Street from north line of Pleasant Street to south line of Vine Street by drain- ing, grading and paving the.roadway with a Class "C" pavement, types one (1) to five (5) inclusive. Provided, all bids for the construction of said work, shall be filed in the office o the Clerk of the Board of Public Works and Safety of said City before 10:00 A.M,C.S.T. of said day. Each bidder for said work shall enclose with his bid a Certified Check payable to the Treasurer of said City, in the sum of two and one-half (2j) per cent of the amount of his bid or a bid bond for two and one-half (22) per cent of the amount of his bid, to insure the execution of Contract, if said work is awarded to him. Detailed plans and specifications for said improvement are on file in the office of the, -Department of Engineering. The Board of Public Works and Safety reserves the right to 'reject any and all bids. Otto Y ount of the First Church of God requested permission of the board to use a part of Rush Street just off Pennsylvania Avenue for a playground for a period of 11 one hour each morning for his Daily Bible School children. This school will be in sess Monday through Friday for two, weeks June 20th to July 1, 1949, inclusive. This was re- ferred to Mr. Miller for investigation and report. Mr. Miller informed the Board that stop signs had been installed on the following j Streets: Brookfield Street at Huron Street, both sides; Huron Street at Koscuiszko ' Street, both sides, Camden Street at Ford Street, both sides; Carroll Street at Pennsyl-� vania Avenue, both sides, Jackson Street at Huron Street, both sides; Marietta Street at Broadway, both sides ; Pulaski Street at Huron Street, both sides, Arthur Street at { Cedar Street, both sides. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Contractor's Bond in the amount of $1,000.00 were approved and ordered filed for Oden R. Robertson; Edward Burton; John Tatich. A petition was presented asking for the vacation of an alley between Lots 60 & 62 in the Grady and Clark addition to the City of South Bend, which alley runs from Bryan Street north to the rear alley. This petition was referred to the City Plan Commission • for investigation and report.
