A regular meeting of the Board of Public 1^Jorks was held on Monday, December 20, 194
at 9:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last meeting were read and
approved. Salary claims in the amount of $27,095.94 were approved and ordered paid.

TRAFFIC DEPARTIETNT: Mr. Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters per
ing to his department were discussed.
PARKING METER DEPARTM1,NT: Mr, Maurice Vennet, Auditor, presented his report for the
ending December 18, 1948.
Mr. Miller, Traffic Engineer, pointed out to the Board that there is an immediate
need of at least fifty more parking meters. Therefore, the Board by unanimous vote in-
structed the Clerk of the Board to order same, pursuant to the contract of purchase
now in effect,
TAXI -CABS: On the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the Board acted favorably on
the petition of the South Bend Cab Company.
ENGINEERING DEPARTIJENT: Excavation bonds were approved and ordered fired for Hamilton
Heating and Plumbing Company J. B. Fleck & Sons, Wm. L. Turnock, W. W. Sibley and W. P.
Sibley, djbj a. Sibley Heating & Plumbing Company, Balbina Perkins, d/b/a Harry D. Perkin:
Company.
A Contractor's bond was approved and ordered filed for John Ehereneman.
A 9 235, and 236 in Linetition was received asking for the vacation of the alley between Lots # 225, 22E
2271 229, 234coln Terrace, and the alley between lots #228, 229� 23{
2311 232, 233 and 234 in Lincoln Terrace. This was referred to the City Plan Commission
for investigation and report.
VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2583
This bung the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by
the Board of Public Works for the vacation of Victoria Street from Tzayckenham Drive to
York Road, under Vacation Resolution No. 2583: The Clerk of the Board having shown
sufficient proofs of publication and no remonstrators having appeared and no written
remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk, it was moved, seconded and unanimously
carried that the said resolution be finally adopted and the said street be vacated. The
Engineering Department is directed to prepare an assessment roll covering the assessment
of benefits and the awr. ,rds of damages to the surrounding properties.

STREET DEPART1v1ENT: Mr. Melton 0. Brannan, Street Commissioner, was present and matters
pertaining to his department were discussed.
Mr. Brannan reported the injury of Ferdinand Kuzmich in the course'of his employ-
ment.
This being the date set for receiving bids for equipment for the 'Street Department,
the following bids were opened and publicly read:
