October 14, 1948 The meeting of the Board of Public Works recessed on October 13, 1948 was continued on Thursday, October 141 1948 at 10:00 A.M. ENGINEER'S REPORT Gentlemen: October 1�j 1948 In the matter of the bids for the improvement of Greenlawn Avenue from the South line of i"isha.waka Avenue to the South property line of Lot #24 in Mikell's Addition in accordance with Improvement Resolution No. 2570 1948, passed by this Board on Septem- ber 24, 1948. We hereb report that we have examined the several bids sumbitted to the Board on October 13, 194 and find that the Rieth-Riley Construction Company has the lowest and best bid for Class B, Type 1, Portland Cement Concrete Pavement, that the Rieth-Riley Construction Company has the lowest and best bid for Class B. Type 21 Port- land Cement Concrete Base, Bituminous Concrete Surface Pavement, that the Rieth-Riley Construction Company ha.'s the lwest and best bid for Class B. Type 4, Bituminous Concrete Base, Bituminous Concrete Surface Pavement. We recommend that the kind of Pavement placed on the above street be Class B. Type 1, Portland Cement Concrete. Gartner PRELIMINARY ORDER October 14, 1948 Whereas, the Board of Public Works and Safety pursuant to its notice to do so, met on the 13th day of October 1948, at the hour of 10:00 o'clock A.M. C.S.T. and publicly opened and considered all bids for the improvement of Greenla`•rn Avenue from the South line of Mishawaka Avenue to the -South property line of Lot 24 in Mikellts Addition in accordance with Improvement Resolution No.r2570 19481 passed by this Board on September 24, 1948. Mr. Miller was authorized to attend a meeting of the Governor's Safety Council in Indianapolis on October 25, 1948. �I Mr. Miller presented the following list of locations where he wished to install stop4A signs and the board approved said locations: I" Prast Boulevard at Elmer Street, both sides i� • Arthur Street at Miner Street, both sides i Chapin Street at Calvert Street, both sides !� Catalpa Street at Calvert Street, both sides. PARKING METERS: It was the decision of the Board that the Junior Chamber of Commerce request to place tags on the parking meters should be denied, however, the Board gra.ntedl; permission to place the tage on the utility poles. +' ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Contractor's bonds were approved and ordered filed for Charles ! V. Berta., Charles W. Aulm and Belleville Lumber & Supply Company. i •Approval fora canopy cornice for the Yewpie building at 328 North Michigan Street. I' was granted by the Board, A contract between the City of South Bend Indiana and 'the Rieth.-Riley Construction( Company was approved by the Board, for the paving of South Libezty Street from the North line of Sample Street to the South line of Western Avenue, under Improvement Resolution No. 2571-1948. A Maintenance Bond and a Performance Bond for the above improvement �,,;ere1) also approved by the Board. ii A contract between the City of South Bend Indiana and the Rieth-Riley Constructional Company was approved by the Board, for the paving of South Jackson Street from the Northjj line of Sample Street to the south line of Dunham Street, under Improvement Resolution No. 2573-1948. A Maintenance Bond and a Performance Bond for the above improvement were also approved by the Board, A contract between the City of South Bend, Indiana and the Rieth-Riley Construction' Company was approved by.the Board, for the paving of North O'Brien Street from the northl line of Washington Street to the North property line of Lots 11 and 13 in Wheeler's !� Subdivision, under Improvement Resolution No. 2567-1948. A Maintenance Bond and a Per- ' formance Bond were also approved by the Board. l' STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Melton 0. Brannan, Street Commissioner, was present and -matters pertaining to his department were discussed. CEMETERY DEPARTMENT: Mr. Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, was present and matters pertaining;' • to his department were discussed.
