HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/11/1948 Board of Public Works Minutes438 TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: Mr. Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters per- taining to his department were discussed, A petition was received asking for the installation of "slow" signs.in Southmore Heights. This was referred to the Traffic Engineer. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: The Board approved sewer plans on Altgeld Street and York Road in Twyckenham Hills Addition for the Crown Development.Company, P VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2581 This being the date set, hearing was had on.the resolution heretofore adopted by the Board of Public Works for the vacation of Hill Street from Napoleon Boulevard to the South line of Peashway Street and from the North line of Peashway Street to the South line of Angela Boulevard under Vacation Resolution No. 2581. The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no remonstrators having appeared and no written remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk, it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolution be finallyadopted and the said street be vacated. The Engineering Department is directed to prepare an assessment roll cover- ing the assessment of benefits and the award of damages to the surrounding properties. Mr. Victor Freeman and Mr. Oare appeared before the Board to present a petition! to vacate an alley between Lots 69 and 70 in Martin's Addition to the City of South Bend. This was referred to the City Engineer. STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Melton 0. Brannan, Street Commissioner, was present and matters pertaining to his department were discussed. CEMETERY DEPARTMENT: Mr, Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, was present and matters pertain- ing to his department were discussed. Moorhead, representing the Junior Chamber of Commerce, came before the Board to request permission to place tags on the parking meter posts in con- nection with Education Week, reminding people to visit the schools. The matter was taken under advisement.• r gNGINEERING DEPARTMENT: A Contractor's bond in the amount of $1,000.00 was approved wnd ordered filed for Belleville Lumber & Supply Company. -A letter was received from the City Plan Commission indicating that they do not recommend the closing of the alley between Lot No.-7 in Cottrell's lst Addition and,Lot No. 49 in the Original Plat of Lowell, as petitioned for by the New York Central Railroad. The Boards therefore refused the petition. A letter was received from the City Plan Commission indicating that they recommend the vacation of the first alley South of Jennings Street from South Michigan Street East!; to the West line of the North and South alley. The City Engineer was directed to pre- pare a vacation resolution for said alley. 0 • • • 439 VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2578 This being the date set, hearing was had on the a.ssessment roll showing the award benefits in the matter of the vacation of the alley incest of damages and the assessment of of Ironwood Drive from Ewing Avenue to the Alley South under vacation resolution No. 2578 In the above named assessment roll, no,remonstrators appeared and no written remon- strances were filed, The Clerk of the Board submitted proofs of publication and same the Board, therefore, finds that the several lots and parcels • were found sufficient, and of land have been benefitted and,damaged in the amounts shown on said roll. The Board, therefore, decides to take final action on said assessment roll and declares same in all things ratified, confirmed and approved without modification and the proceedings closed, and the alley vacated upon receipt of the amount of benefit assessments from the various property owners so benefitted and all proceedings had with reference to said alley vaca- tion are hereby sustained. �I IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 2567 October 119 1948 Whereas, the Board of Public Works, did on the 28th day of September, 1948, adopt a .
