NOTICE TO CONTRACTORS
NO. 2580, 1948
To Whom it May Concern:
South Bend, Indiana
Notice is hereby given, that the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City
of South Bend, Indiana., on the 25th day of October, 1948 at the hour of 10:00 A.M. C.S.T
at the office of the Board, in the City Hall, in said City, will open and consider
sealed bids,'and designate by preliminary order the kind of pavement to be used, for the
following described Street Improvement, as provided for in Improvement Resolution No,
25807 1948 duly passed by said Board on September 91 1948 and September 30, 1948
respectively, to -wit:
Sibley Avenue from west line of Wilber Street to East line of College Street
by draining, grading and paving the roadway with a Class C Pavement, Types one (1) to
five (5) inclusive.
Provided, all bids for the construction of said work, shall be filed in the

office of the Clerk of the Board of Public Works and Safety of said City before 10:00
o'clock A.M. C.S.T. of said day. I I
Each bidder for said work shall enclose with his bid a Certified Check payable
to the Treasurer of said City, in the sum of two and one-half ( 2 1/2) per cent of the
i amount of his bid, or a bid bond for two and one-half (2 1/2 ) per. cent of the amount of
his bid, to insure the execution of Contract, if said work is awarded to him.
' Detailed plans and specifications for said improvement are on file in the
office of the Department of Engineering. I

The Board of Public Works and Safety reserves the right to reject any and all

bids.

A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, October 4, 1948
at 9:00 A.M. Mr. Troeger was absent. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
Salary claims in the amount of $19,102.03 were approved and ordered paid. Claims of the
following suppliers in the amount of $10,436.05 were approved and ordered paid:

TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: Mr. Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters per-
taining to his department were discussed.
A petition was received asking for the installation of "slows' signs in Southmore
Heights. This was referred to the Traffic Engineer,
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: The Board approved sewer plans on Altgeld Street and York Road
in Twyckenham Hills Addition for the Crown Development.Company.

VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2581
This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by
the Board of Public Works for the vacation of Hill Street from Napoleon Boulevard to
the South line of Peashway Street and from the North line of Peashway Street to the
South line of Angela Boulevard under Vacation Resolution No. 2581. The Clerk of the
Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no remonstrators having appeared;
and no written remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk, it was moved, seconded
and unanimously carried that the said resolution be finallyadopted and the said street
be vacated. The Engineering Department is directed to prepare an assessment roll cover
ing the assessment of benefits and the award of damages to the surrounding properties.
Mr. Victor Freeman and Mr. Oare appeared before the Board to present a petition!
to vacate an alley between Lots 69 and 70"in Martin's Addition to the City of South
Bend. This was referred to the City Engineer.
STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Melton 0. Brannan, Street Commissioner, was present and matters
pertaining to his department were discussed.
CEMETERY DEPARTMENT: Mr. Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton7 was present and matters pertain-
ing to his department were discussed.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned
at 10:00 A.M. r

in the amount of $1,000.00 was approved

Company.
-A letter was received from the City Plan Commission indicating that they do not
recommend the closing of the alley between Lot No.-7 in Cottrell's lst Addition and,Lot
No. 49 in the Original Plat of Lowell_, as petitioned for by the New York Central Railroad.
The Board, therefore, refused the petition.
A letter was received from the City Plan Commission indicating that they recommend
the vacation of the first alley South of Jennings Street from South Michigan Street East;'
to the West line of the North and South alley. The City Engineer was directed to pre-
pare a vacation resolution for said alley.
