All members were present. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. BOARD OF WORKS: The Clerk of the Board was directed to get letter bids from three reputable dealers for an air conditioner for the Mayor's office. , ENGINEL'RING D.EPARTIIENT: Excavation bonds wera approved and ordered filed for Percival Haines d/b/a Haines & Haines, and Fred Spromberg. Contractor's bonds were approved and ordered filed for H. G. Christman Company and John C. Benjamin. A petition to pave an alley between Michigan and Main Streets from Indiana Avenue to Dayton Street was referred to the City Engineer. A petition was received from the City Housing Corporation asking for the vacation of Iowa Street between Ford Street and Dunham Street. This was referred to the City Engineer for investigation. Vacation Resolution No. 2563 This being the date set, hearing was had on the assessment roll showing the award of damages and the assessment of benefits in the matter of vacation of the first alley North of Elwood Avenue from Illinois Street to Chicago Street and the first alley North of Lincoln Way West from Chicago Street to Sheridan Avenue under Vacation Resolution No. 2563. In the above named assessment roll, no remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrances were filed, the Clerk of the Board submitted proofs of publication of notices and same were found sufficient, and the Board, therefore, finds that the several ;! lots and parcels of land have been benefitted and damaged in the amounts shown'on said !;roll. The Board, therefore, decides to take final action on said assessment roll and declares same in all things ratified, confirmed and approved without modification and the proceedings closed, and the alleys vacated upon receipt of the amount of benefit ii assessments from the various property owners so benefitted and all proceedings had with reference to said alleys vacated are hereby sustained. Railroad right of way under Vacation Resolution,No. 2565. The Clerk of Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no remonstrators having appeared and,no written remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk, it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the sa.1d resolution be finally adopted and the said alleys be vacated. The Engineering Department is directed to prepare an assessment roll showing th assessment of benefits and the award of damages to the surrounding properties, Vacation.Resolution No. 2566 This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution her'etofore adopted by thertBoard of Public Works for the vacation of the alley North of Elwood Avenue from Elmer Street West to the East line of the alley West of Elmer street under Vacation Resolution No. ,2566. The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no remonstrators having appeared and no written remonstrances having been filed with the C1erkq it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolution be finally. adopted and the said alley be vacated. Branna%}, Street Commissionerwas present and matters pertaining to his department were discussed. s Mr. John Pinkowski,,a street department employee, came before the Board to inform them of a physical condition resoluting from an old injury sustained while working in the Street Department. No action was taken. A letter was presented) from I4r. Brannan.7 informing the Board of an injury to a Street Department employee, one Ray Kirkendall on June 30, 1948. CEMETERY DEPARTMENT: Mr. Stanley Leszczynskil Sexton, was present and matters pertain- ing to his department were discussed.
