The, City Engineer was directed to prepare a vacation resolution for same. The City Plan Commission indicated by letter that they approve the vacation of the section of alley running West from North Blmer Street next North of Elwood Avenue and between -lots 65 and lots 4, 5, and 6 in Huey Heights Addition and the City Engineer was directed to prepare a vacation resolution for same. • �I The City Plan Commission indicated by letter that the approve the vacation of a portion of an alley in Walnut 4th Addition and the City Engineer was.directed to prepare a vacation resolution for same. i The Board approved the grade on Kentucky Street from Sample Street to Ford Street and on Revere Place from East of Kentucky to 365.87 feet Southeast of Kentucky Street. The Board approved the grade on Dunham Street from the east side of an alley v'lest of Dundee Street to the west side of the alley East of Lake Street. STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Melton Brannan, Street Commissioner, was present and matters • pertaining to his department were discussed. Mr. H. L. Underwood and Mr. Jack Oehmke came before the Board to ask permission to decorate the down town streets for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Convention, The j� Board approved their request with the stipulation that they file an indemnity bond with the city. .I 'I CEMETERY DEPARTMENT: Mr. Stanley Leszuzynski, Sexton, was present and matters pertain- ing to his department were discussed. TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: Mr. Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters per- taining to his department were discussed. Mr. Miller was asked to obtain the cooperation of the Park Department in cutting down shrubs and trimming trees where they obstruct the view at intersections. A list of such intersections having been made by police officers, the said list was given to Mr. Miller for investigation. "I ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: A Contractor's bond in the amount of $1,000.00 was approved and ordered filed for Wilbur D. Ruffner. -Mr. William Fett, Engineer for the Sollitt Construction Company, came before the Board to ask permission for his company to construct a fixed canopy for the Romy-Hammes Building, The Board granted permission for the said construction providing that the plans in other respects fulfills all the requirements of the Building Department. Permission was granted for a canopy to be constructed in front of the Alexander Vogel Store at 810 West Indiana Avenue providing that the plans are approved by the Building Department. VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2563 This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by the Board of Public Works for the vacation of the first alley North of Elwood Avenue from Illinois Street to Chicago Street, and , the first alley North of Lincoln Way West from Chicago Street to Sheridan Street under vacation resolution No. 2563. The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no remonstrators having appeared and no written remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk, it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolution be finally adopted and the said alleys be vacated. The Engineering Department is directed to prepare an assessment roll covering the assessment of benefits and the award of damages to the surrounding properties. Mr. Ray S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, filed primary assessment roll showing,the award of damages and the assessment of benefits in the matter of the vacation of the first alley North of Elwood Avenue from Illinois Street to Chicago Street, and, the first alley North of Lincoln Way West from Chicago Street to Sheridan Street under vaca- tion resolution No. 2563. In the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby orders that it will meet in the City Hall at 11:00 A.M. on the 6th day of July, 1948, for the purpose of hearing and receiving remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by said vacation, and the Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together with the amount of damages awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners by publishing same on the 18th day of June and on the 25th day of June, 1949 in the South Bend Daily Tribune and the Weekly mirror. West line of the first alley West of Main Street to the Pennsylvania Railroad right of way.
