These single seats were installed upon the -recommendation of traffic experts as a safety measure. Experience has shown that with the new ! busses passengers do not block the aisles and jeopardize the driverts op-erations. I� The new busses contain 35 seats. Not more than 40 seats could be placed in a new bus if the single seats were eliminated. (The older busses contain only 27 seats. or less.) Ile thank that the busses presently used afford the greatest safety to the general public. However, if you request, we shall equip our new busses with • iI 40 seats, II It has been suggested that our busses stop at all street intersections, There is no city in the country vdhere transit vehicles stop at every block on ' their lines. Vie believe that this suggestion was made without giving full re- flection to the problem of modern transportation. To require a,bus to stop at itevery street intersection will 12* minutewillgreatlyincrease�traffichhazards;�will�incoreasectiwearsandoteaarton our streets; will mean bus operation at a greatly increased cost. Since the commencement of the war our lines have increased in length from a mile to two miles. 1,%le have been able to hold our running time despite • '! this additional mileage. However, if we are obliged to stop at every block, vie are certain that we cannot render the type of service which the public today de- mands. We believe that the vast majority of the public prefers the inconvenience of the skip -stop in favor to the faster schedule. r f Considerable time will be saved in the operation of our busses if the (i report submitted to you by Mr. Miller and IIr, Williams is adopted, This time so ' saved can be disposed of in either one of two ways-. 1a) By passing it on to our I riders in the form df a faster schedule; or (b) By placing additional stops on our existing service and holding prsent,schedules. l We suggest that we jointly make with you a study of our stops.
