This Board does fix the 9th day of February, 1948, at ten otclock in the
forenoon, as the time at which said contract will be finally considered, at the
office of this Board in the City Hall, 224 North Main Street, South Bend, Indiana
At said time and place, a public hearing will be had at which any taxpayer may
appear and file protest against any or all of the provisions of said contract.
IT IS ORDERED that Northern Indiana Transit, Inc, shall, at its own expense,
itcause the full and complete text of said contract to be published one time at
least one week before such hearing, with the time and place of such hearing, in
• South Bend Tribune, a daily newspaper, and The Mirror, a weekly newspaper, each
of which newspapers is.printed in the English language in St, Joseph County,
Indiana.

post a.copy_of such contract and notice in ten public places in the City of South

A re ular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, January,26,
1948, at 9:30 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last meeting were read
and approved., Salary claims in the amount of $15,481.27 were approved and ordered paid.

The Traffic Engineer asked permission for his assistant, Steve Ivankovics and him-
self, to attend the Road School at Purdue University February 2nd to 5th inclusive.

• i ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: The Engineer was authorized to spend February 2nd to 5th in-
clusive at the Purdue University Road School.
The established grade -was approved by the Board on Lawrence Street and St. Louis
Boulevard between Napoleon and Angela Avenues,
11 STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Melton 0. Brannan' Street Commissioner was present and matters
pertaining to his department were discussed.
Mr. Brannan was authorized to attend the Road School at Purdue University From
February 2nd to 5th inclusive.
• it CEMETERY DEPARTMENT: Mr. Stanley Leszczynski7 Sexton, was present and matters pertaining
to his department were discussed.

TAXI -CABS: Mr. Stratigos, representing the Veterftnts Cab Company, filed a petition
with the Board asking that the exclusive right, license, privilege and franchise
granted to Clyde Hutsberger, to the one stall taxi -cab sta d located at the corner of
Colfax And Michigan Street, be transferred to Anderson Milfion upon his purchase of
the taxi -cab now owned and operated by Clyde Husberger. No action was taken until a
report could be obtained from Mr. Miller, the Traffic Engineer.
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: A petition wasAireceived asking for the vacation of the alley
South of Frederickson Street from Johns°Street East to the first alley West of Johnson
Street. No action was taken at this time.
An excavation bond was approved and ordered filed for C. R. Randolph.
Mr. Postma of Sears, Roebuck & Company came before the Board to ask for an extensi
of time on the permission granted to them to erect pre -fabricated buildings on a lot at
529,South Michigan Street: The right to instAll or erect said pre -fabricated buildings
which was granted to Sears,Roebuck & Company is hereby extended from the date of this
meeting until March 28, 1949 under the same conditions as has prevailed.
Vacation Resolution No. 2560
, This being the date set, hearing was held on the assessment roll showing the award
of damages and the assessment of benefits in the matter of the vacation of the alley
South of Western Avenue -from LaFayette Boulevard to the East line of the alley West of
LaFayette Boulevard, Also the alley West of LaFayette Boulevard from Western A,,enue to
the North line of the alley South of Western Avenue under Vacation Resolution2560.
In the above named assessment roll, no remonstrators appeared and no written
remonstrances were filed, the Clerk of the Board submitted proofs of publication of.-i
notices and same were found sufficient, and the Board, therefore, finds that the several
lots and parcels of land have been benefitted and damages in the amounts shown on the
said roll. The Board, however, decides not to take final action on the said assessment
roll at this meeting and continues the hearing until a later date.
P ursuant to the requirements of the Statutes of the State of Indiana, (Sec. 48
7303, Burns Indiana Statutes, 1933), notice is hereby given that The Studebaker Corpor-
ation proposes to enter into an agreement with the Board of Public Works and Safety of
the City of South Bend, Indiana? that as required by law said Board has tentatively
determined the exact form in which such agreement is to be finally adopted to be as
follows I
