Mr. Cummings was absent. TIinutes of the last meeting were read and approved. S, Gypsum Company and Trlr. Fish of the Crane Company were present at the meeting to discuss their proposed plans for off street loading and un- loading of trucks. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: A Contractor's bond in the amount of ?l,000.00 was approved and ordered filed for Roy Toney. An Excavation bond was approved and ordered filed for the Northern Indiana Public Service Company. Contract #6 presented by Consoer, Townsend and Associates for the interceptor sewers and treatment plant was approved by the Board.. George A. Beamer, representing Gaseteria, Incorporated, was present to submit plans for 2 6000 gallon storage tanks and 1 1000 gallon kerosene tank and 1 550 gallon alcohol tank to be construction at the northwest corner of Indiana Avenue and Michigan Street. The roard approved the plans only in respect to the storage tanks. CD STREET DEPARTMENT: T1r. Casimer Balka, Street Commissioner, was present and matters pertaining to his department were discussed. A petition was received asking for the improvement of 30th Street North of the Grand Trunk Railroad crossing by oiling or black topping same. This was referred to the Street Department and the City Engineer, CEMETERY D.EPARTT��iENT: Mr. Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, was present and matters pertainin to his department were discussed. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Contractor's bonds were approved and ordered filed for Leslie • September 15, 1947 325 Colvin, agent for the Indiana Bell Telephone Company, and Charles E. Em.ions. A letter was received from the City Plan Commission indicating that they. approve the vacation of the alley in the rear of lots 57, 58, and 59 in Augustine's Addition to the City of South Bend. The City Engineer was directed to prepare a resolution for same. I - A petition was received asking for the vacation of the first alley South of South Street from • Michigan Street to the first alley East of lrlichigan Street. This was referred to the City Plan Commission for investigation and report. i The Board approved plans for sanitary sewers proposed for Kentucky Street from 'Testern Avenue to Ford Street submitted by the Colpaert Realty Corporation. j� The Board approved specifications and plans for the Bowman Creek Calvert ;from Broadway to Pennsylvania. Noel, spokesman for a Ij group of interested property owners, who et were present at the meeting, asked for the repair of Bonds Avenue, Green Street and Goodland Avenue to Bendix Drive. The City Engineer and the Street Conmgissioner will make an investigation of conditions. The Young Veterans Club asked permission to close Brookfield Street from Washington Street f:o the first alley north on Saturday, September 13, from noon till 11:30 P.11. The Board granted permission. R. R. Sraith, Mr. Watterson and Mr. Hahn of the Northern Indiana Transit Company, came before the Board to petition the permission of the Board to extend the Ford Street line from its present terminus in Belleville, over the following route for a trial period of 60 days, beginning September 27, 1947, as follows: From Belleville terminus over Sample Street to 1layflower toad; over mayflower Road to Lai=rrence Street; over Lawirence Street +bo Berry Street; over Berry Street to Ardmore Trail; over Ardmore Trail to 11oss Road in Ardmore, re- turning over the same route. The rate of fare to be fifteen (15) cents cash or one token plus one nickel with free transfer privilege to other city lines in South Bend. The Board granted permission for this trial period.
