A petition for the paving of Gertrude Street from Prairie Avenue to Ewing Avenue
was referred to the City Engineer for investigation and report.

pertaining to his department were discussed,

A regular meeting of the Board of Public 'tlorks was held on Itiionday, August 25,
1947 at 8:30 A,IoI, Mr, Cummings was absent. Minutes of the last meeting were read
and approved, Salary claims in the amount of 5�15,030.14 were approved and ordered
paid. Claims of the following suppliers in the amount of �12,005.47 were approved

TRAF.tiIC DEPART1,.ANT: Yr, Ernest I; filler, Traffic Engineer, waspresent and matters
pertaining to his department were discussed.
A letter was received aksing for the installation of a traffic light at Portage
and De Maude Avenues and blinker lights at Portage and Angela Avenues, also an in-
vestigation of traffic conditions the entire length of Portage Avenue. -This was
referred to the Traffic ::engineer.
BUSSES: The following resolution was adopted: Because the Bus Companies are using
areas outside of loading zones for lay -over purposes; for cleaning equipment and
dumping refuse in the City,Streets; due to the fact that double parking and parking
at an angle are obstructing traffic; due to the fact that no additional space -can be
allocated to them without injury to the public, effective September 1, 1947 there
will be no more loading zone on rYest Jefferson Boulevard at LaFayette Boulevard.
The space is now vacated and the space is allocated to public parking space and the
ii Traffic ,ngineer is instructed to remove all signs and other curb markings to give
effect to this notice.
ENGIITEERING D EPARTIiENT: C ontrac for s s bond s in the amount of 61, 000.00 each were
approved and ordered filed for V,1hitcomb & Keller and Taylor Constf;uction Company.
An Excavation Bond wasapproved and ordered filed for Niezgodski Brothers
Plumbing Company.

A petition was received asking for the repair of the pavement on East Calvert
Street in the 1300 block. This was referred -to the City Engineer.
Mr. Andrysiak presented the following:
I -certify that the Reed Construction Company, (Virgil H. Reed and Romer L.
-Short)-of lrTishawaka, Indiana have paved ( with concrete ) Scott Street from Donald
Street -to Ewing Avenue as desired.and deemed necessary in Resolution No. 2553 in
the meeting of November 4, 1246 of the Board of Public (forks and Safety of the
City of South Bend, Indiana.
The amount of a5, 94'7.05 is due the Reed Construction Company for vrork per-
formed and materials used on paving of said Scott Street. This amount represents
85,, of -the total cost of the project.- ,
