A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on ivionday, August 11,
1947 at 8:30 A,Y* All members were present. Minutes of the last meeting were read
and approved, Salary claims in the amount of $15,444.97 were approved and prdered
paid. There were no claims of suppliers to be approved.
TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: The Traffic Department being in need of a paint marking,mach-
ine, the Clerk was directed to vrr.ite to.Dealers for bids for same. ,
JENGIT ERING D%PART =T: Contractorts Bonds were approved and orderea filed for
Carl J. Reinke and Son and the Reed_ Construction Company.
An Excavation bond,was approved and ordered filed for the Reed Construction
Company,
The Leslie Colvin Construction Company was granted permission to occupy a
part of Main and Wayne Streets for the construction of the Indiana Bell Telephone
Company building from August 15, 1947 to October 15, 1947.
The City Plan Commission indicated by letter that they approve the vacation
of the first alley .lest of Ironwood Road running South from Ewing Avenue to the
Alley South of Ewing Avenue and the City Engineer was directed to prepare a-,
vacation resolution.
A petition to vacate Hill Street from the North Line of Napoleon Street to
the South line of Peashway Street and from the North line of Peashzvay Street to
the South line of Angela Avenue, iivhich.had been presented to the City Plan Com-
mission at their meeting of August 7, and on which no action was taken, was<dis-
cussed by the Board but no action was taken pending further investigation.
� STREET DEPART L ITT: Mr. Casimer Balka, Street Comriission :r, was present and matters
;pertaining to his department were discussed.
Irene Kolman, RoseHarringer and Lottie Borkowski, representing Pose 3194,
Veterans of Foreign 'eaars, came before the Board to ask permission to close Grant
Street from Huron to Ford Street on August 23, 1947 from 6:30 to 12:00 midnight
for an open house. Permission was granted.
The Board approved a payment to be made to Andrew Toth of 6,018.80 as, the
balance due V1r. Toth on his contract for drawing the plans and specifications for
the Street Department Building.
Tyr. Howell came before the Board to ask permission to barricade Monroe and
Edgewater Drive, Arch Avenue and Edgewater Drive and Bronson and River Avenues,
for a boat race and show, The Bca rd took the matter under advisement.
CJI=IETERY DEPARTIuTEITT: Z11r. Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, was present and matters
pertaining to his department were discussed.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was
adjourned at 10:00 A,T;I, .

An appeal having been filed by the Northern Indiana Public Service Company
for granting -a building permit, notices were issued to members of the Board to call
a special meeting of the Board of forks Jednesday, August 13, 1947 at 9:00 A,M.

A special meeting of the Board of Public :forks was held on bJednesday, August
130 1947 at 9:00 A,I1. pursuant to notice. Mr. Cummings was absent.
The meeting was called for the purpose of hearing an appeal of the Northern
Indiana Public Service Company, as follows:
