Home My WebLink About06/23/1947 Board of Public Works Minutes310 Reverend C. ffitucki, of St. Casimerts Parish:,, came before the Board to ask permission to close Fisher Street for carnival purposes from July lst to July 8th inclusive. Also to close 'Nebster Street during the evenings so it could be used for pedestrian traffic only. The Board granted permission to close a part of'Fisher Street during the day and evening and Viebster Street during the evening only. Representatives of the F & S Transit Company, Norwalk Trucking Company and Shippers Dispatch came before the Board to discuss the truck access routes. The matter was re- f erred ,to Mr. miller for investigation. , DOG POUND: The clerk of the Board was directed to advertise for a one-half ton pc up truck for the Dog Pound, bids to be returnable on July 7, 1947. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: A petition was received with 18 signers asking for the con s ruc lop o a pavement on Sibley Street from ,wilbur Street to College Street. This was referred to the Engineering Department. Contractorts bonds were approved and ordered filed for Thomas J. Bucz;jn.ski, Clarence P. Coleman, Millard I. Hartman and Carl Sousley. y d The Leslie Colvin Construction Company asked permission to extend their partial ocdiapancy of Main and Wayne Streets while the building is being built for the Indiana Bell Telephone Company to August 15, 1947. The Board granted their request. STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Casimer Balka, Street Commissioner, was present and matters per aining to His department were discussed. The -Board approved the elimination of p� parking on the ;hest side of 1,Iunsun Street, between Dunham and the lst alley North of Orchard, and on Kendall Street , the west side between Dunham Street and the ist alley North ofOrchard Street. The Board ,gave permission to -use Chapin Street from Sample Street to 'Vestern Avenue as a tr�.ck. access route temporarily until such time as the Sample Street roadway west of Sheridan Avenue is repaired or until a traffic signal is installed at the intersection of vvestern Avenue and Taylor Street. ''Jhenever any one of the above mentioned improvements is completed, then trucks shall not use Chapin Street but shall use the officially designated 'muck routes as set forth in Ordinance #3510. 0 111 • 0 0 U • • 311 'ENGINEERING DEPARIMENT: A Con.tractorts bond in the amount of $1,000.00 was approved and ordered filed for Edward Burton. !I The Indiana Bell Telephone Company filed an excavation bond which was approved and ordered filed. Vacation Resolution No. 2556 • This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by the Board of Public ?#forks for the the vacation of alley South of Ford Street from ' Carlisle Street to the east line of the North and South alley and from the 'west line I! of the north and south alley ';Nest to Phillipa Street under vacation resolution No. 2556. The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication, and no remonstrators having appeared and no written remonstrances having been f iled with t h clerk, it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolution be finally adopted and the said alley be vacated. The Engineering Department is directed to prepare an assessment roll covering; the assessment of benefits and the awards of damages to the surrounding properties. Vacation Resolution No. 2557 The Board -of Public iworks and Safety of the City of South Bend met, pursuant to notice given as requred by law, to hear and consider remonstrances and to take ,final action on Declaratory Resolution No. 2557, 1947, by which resolution the Board resolved that it,is desired and deemed necessary to vacate the following described I alleys in the City of South Bend, St. Joseph County, Indiana: Ta) The alley running nm th and south between Lots numbered 129 and 130 as shown on the Recorded Plat of Vienger and Kreighbaumts Second Addition to the City of South Bend, Indiana, being the second alley west of Pdiami Street and running from the north side of Broadway to the south side of the first alley • north of Broadway; (b) the first alley north of Broadway running from the east line of Lot 129 to the ;Nest line of '•'ot 137 as shown on the Recorded Plat of 71enger & Kreighbaumt s I!Second Addition to the City of South Bend, Indiana; j(c) Th.e alley running north and south between Lots Numbered 137 and•138 as shown on the Recorded Plat of 'lenger & Kreighbaumt s Second Addition to the lCity of _South Bend, Indiana, being the second alley 3est of 11iami Street and i running from the south side of Pennsylvania Avenue to the North line of the first alley South of Pennsylvania Avenue.
