1947 at 8:30 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the -last meeting were

TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: Mr. Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, waspresent and matters
pertaining o is department were discussed.
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT:An Excavation bond was approved and ordered filed for the
Soilitt Construe lon-Company.
Contractorts bonds were approved and ordered filed for Alex E. Ross and
Stanley Wachowiak.
STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Casimer Balka, Street Commissioner, was present and matter
per alning Uo his department were discussed.
CEMETERY DEPARTMENT: Mr. Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, was present and matters
pertaining to hTs department were discussed.
There being no further business to came before the Board, the meeting was
adjourned at 10:00 A,M,

TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: BE IT RESOLVED: That the Traffic Commission be requested
o un er _a e a iorough study of the problems arising out of on -street parking
by inter -city busses and the possibilities of an off-street terminal for inter-
city busses, and in connection with such study, to study the advisability of
off-street terminals for intea-city busses and taxi -cabs,

TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: Mr. Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters per-
taining to nis epartment were discussed.
A petition was received, containing nine -six signatures, asking for the installa-
tion of a traffic signal at the intersection of ,Uestern Avenue and Taylor Street. This
was referred to Mr. M'1ller and he tiaras directed to ivrite to the State _Highway Commission
informing them of the petition.
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Contractorts bonds in the amount of $1;000.00 each were
approveed and ordere `sled for E. T, Tranberg, Thos. L. Hickey, and Steven Sharkey.
A performance bond in the amount of 05000.00 eras filed by Virgil H. Reed and
Homer L. Short doing business as Reedt s Construction Company, Mishawaka, Indiana.

A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, April 21, 1947
at 8:30 A.i'". All members were present. Minutes of the last meeting were read and
approved. The following claims in the amount of y534.02 were approved and ordered
paid:

TRAFFIC DEPARUvIENT: Mr. Ernest Mijler, Traffic Jnginer, was present and matters
pertaining Eo ni s . epartm:2ent were discussed.
Mr. Miller presented plans for traffic light installations at the intersections d
of Diamond and Blaine Avenues and Angela Boulevard which all converge at Portage Avenue;;
which will operate at the will of pedestrians and motorists alike by push buttons and 1
also a set of out -of -the ordinary stop and go lightsat i'lashington Avenue and olive
Street which will operate normally except that when the gates are down and the flasher
signal is warning of the approach of a train over the adjacent New York Central right
of way, the traffic lights will also flash red in all directions, permitting progress
east west and north, but not south across the tracks. The Board approved both sets
of plans.
mr.-Quallsinformed the Board that a traffic signal at the northwest corner of
Sample and IJain streets had been hit by an automobile, driver unknown, and damaged.
The signal was repaired and placed back in service at a cost of 025.85.
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: A Contractorts bond in the amount of 1`1,000.00 was approved
and ordered i e or Harry Kemble.
The Board approved an easement to the City of South Bend, the right to construct
and maintain_ a storm water sealer for the purpose -of draining Sylvan Glen Street under
lots 50 and 10 in block B, Bercliff Estate, a strip approximbately 10 feet wide.
Vacation Resolution No. 2555
This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by
the Board of Public works for the vacation of the alley North of Hoinrard Street from -
Francis Street to the first alley E4st under vacation resolution 23o. 2555. The Clerk
of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no remonstrators having
appeared and no rritten remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk, it was moved.,
seconded and unanimousiV carded that the said resolution be finally adopted and the
said alley be vacated. The Engineering Department is directed to prepare an assessment
roll covering the assessments of benefits and the awards of damages to the surrounding
properties.
