STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Casimer Balka, Street Commissioners was present and matters pertaining o his department were discussed. Mr. Balka turned over to the Board a check in the amount of 5�234.63 from the H. D. Lee Mercantile Company for road oil and asphalt. A form of contract between the Board of Public Works and Safety and Andrew A, Toth for preliminary services in connection with general,structural and mechanical plans for erecting a new one-story structure for the City Street Department was approved by the Board and it was directed that the Board should execute such con- tract upon its execution by Mr. Toth and submit it to the Common Council for ap- proval. BUS ROT -]TES: 'lritten requests were received from the I orthern Indiana Transit Company for a-90 day trial service of routing the Rum Village Bus line.South on LaFayette Street to Broadway, ':'test on Broadway to Franklin Street, South on Frank- lin Street to Indiana Avenue and return via same; also routing the Rum Village bus line East on Calvert Street to Kendall Street, ITorth on Kendall to Indiana Avenue, East on Indiana avenue to Fran!--.lin Street, thus discontinuing the use of Chapin Street which is narrow. The Board granted permission for the 90 day trial run, which, if successful, is -to be perrlanent. The Northern Indiana Transit Company also presented written requests for additional bus service on an experimental basis for a 90 dcy period beginning September 28, 1946 as follows: Olive Street, which is located approximately one-half mile,west of Nash Street is a north and south street in direction and is not provided with bus transportation, the proposed experiment is to operate the base schedule of the Ritm Village line every fifteen minutes west on Indiana Avenue to Olive Street, then South on Olive Street to Prairie ;1venue then Northeast on Prairie Avenue to various other streets that are now followed to the Court Douse; Also Belleville Gardens which is located approximately one-half mile west of Sheridan Street on Sample Street is not provided with bus transportation, the proposed experiment is to operate the base schedule of the Western Avenue bus line every fifteen minutes west on Semple Street to Belleville Gardens and return to Sheridan Street, the residents of Delleville Gardens to provide proper facilit- ies for the turning of the buses at the terminus of the line. The Board approved this additional service and stipulated that if the 90 day experiment proves succ- essful the run should be perrmanent. 268 ENGINEERING DEPARTIZENT: Contractort s bonds were approved and ordered filed for Ralph Sager w Roy. Christman Construction Company, The Board approved an Excavation bond for the Freyn Brothers Company, Inc., of Indianapolis, Indiana and it was ordered filed. Plans for a drive-in Bank Station at the Southeast corner of Mishawaka Avenue and 26th Street were approved by the Board for the First Bank & Trust Company. A contract between the City of South Bend and Georg e Swiatowy for the removal of the old building in the rear of the 'rater forks Building was submitted and approved. This being the date set for receiving bids for the repair of the north approach of Twyckenham Bridge, and no bids having been received, the Clerk of the Board_ was directed to contract for sarie. IT0'111, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Public -forks and Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that all public streets, alleys and public places dedi- cated to the public use in said Plat, are hereby accepted and approved by said Board for and on behalf of the City of South Bend, Indiana. The Corzmissioner informed the Board that there was a bad hole in the crossing of the Grand `hunk 'Testern Railroad at Thirtieth Street, and the Boan-d lirected the Clerk to write to the Railroad Compan-;; and notify there to have the crossing repaired ir��lediately.
