No action was taken in regard to the matter of the bid for sewer and pavement on ellows Street. A petition containing 14 names was received asking for the construction of a local sewer on Fisher Street from Olive Street to Meade Street. This was referred to the �I City Engineer for investigation and report. STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Casimer Balka, Street Commissioner, was present and matters per- taining to his department were discussed. This being the date set for receiving bids for two tractors with snow plow attach- .ments, the following; bids were opened and read: Korte Bros, Certified Check for $250.00 Tractor 0833,38 Fort Wayne.. Indiana Non -collusion affidavit Mower 239.25 Snow Plow 227.00 Indiana Equipment Co. These bids were referred to the Street Department for tabulation and a report at the next meeting. There being no further business to come before the Board, at 12:25 P.Tyl. ENGINEERI11U DEPARTMENT: The Board approved the established grace of the alley Torte of I Elwood Avenue from College Street to Brookfield Street and the alley `Nest of Brookfield I Street from Bulla Street to Keller Street. Also the established grade of the alley 'West of College Street from Elwood Avenue to Bulla Street. TRAFFIC A petition was received containing forty two names asking for an investigation f the traffic conditions at Adams and Vassar Streets. This was referred to the Traffi ngineer for investigation and report. 226 ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT.* An excavation bond was approved for Arthur C. Rogers and was ordered filed. A petition was received asking for the vacation of an alley South of Mishawaka Avenu from Louise Street to the Grand Trunk Railroad Tracks. This was referred to the City Plan Commission. A petition was received asking for the vacation of a strip of land five feet in width taken off of the East side of the alley extending North from Sample Street between lots No. 7 and 8 in the Louis Nicholls Subdivision to the City of South Bend. This was referred to the City Plan Commission. A petition was received asking for the vacation of Sibley Street from Brookfield Street to Johnson Street. This was referred to the City Plan Commission. STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Casimer Balka, Street Commissioner, presented the tabulation of bids received for tractors and snow plows, and the Board found that in their opinion, + the lowest and best bid was the bid of Korte Brothers of Fort Wayne, Indiana, knd the Board therefore authorized the purchase of two tractors, two snow plows and one mower from Korte Brothers at a total sum of 2,374.01. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 10:00 A.Tvi. 1-7 J November 19, 1945 ii A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, November 19, 195 at 9:00 A.M. All members were resent. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Salary claims in the amount of 13,655.44 were approved and ordered paid. Carlson. These were ordered filed. it - A resolution permitting the owners of the Page.Hotel property, to seal a two inch (211) opening between the newly constructed building.a nd the building owned by the City Water Works, to prevent damage by the collection of, moisture in the area, was approved by the Board. A copy of the resolution to become a part of these minutes. Vacation Resolution No. 2539. November 12, 1945 having been the date set for public hearing on the assessment roll showing the award of damages and the assessments of benefits in the matter of the �! vacation of the first alley North of Randolph Street from I,Iarine Street to the East line of the alley '.'Jest of Marine Street under Vacation Resolution No. 2539, and said date having been a public holiday the hearing was continued until November 19, 1945. i In the above named assessment roll, no remonstrators appeared and no written re- l monstrances were filed, the Clerk of the Board submitted proofs of publication of notice and same were found sufficient, and the Board., therefore, finds that the several lots j and parcels of land have been benefited and damaged in the amounts shown on said roll.
