SPECIAL MEETING September 8, 1945
A special meeting of the Board o.f Public Works was held on Saturday, September 8
1945 at 10:OO A.M. All.members were present.
The Board received from the Mayor the report of the post-war planning committee
concerning the construction of a sewage disposal plant for the city of South Bend.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned
at 11:30 A.M. /j ,

TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: Mr. Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters perta:
ing to his department were discussed.
iI ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: A petition was received asking for the installation of a sewer
on South Douglas Street between West Donald and West Ewing Streets. Also for a sewer on
Arnold Street between West Donald and West Ewing streets. These were approved by the
Board.
An ordinance was presented by the Grand Trunk Western Railroad Company to be given
j� to the common Council for approval,•concerning flasher lights at the intersection of the
City -streets and the Grand Trunk railroad crossings. They have been manually operated
II by the railroad company, but th'e company wishes -to install automatic flashers signals
�) connected with the railroad tracks for twenty-four hour protection. This was approved
j� by the Board and referred to the Common Council.
II The "ity Plan Commission approved the vacation of the alley 'West of Marine Street
between Dubail and Randolph from Marine Street west to the East line of the first alley
i Westof Marine. This was referred -to the Engineering department for preparation of a
vacation resolution.
• I! A letter was received from Councilman John M. McCarthy informing the Board that
excavations in the street have not been
a properly backfilled. The Board referred the
matter to Mr. Williams for investigation and report.

Contractor's bonds in the amount of $1000.00 each were approved for John C. VonBerg
Louis Alhouse, and Charles E. Emmons. These were ordered filed. Excavation bonds in
the amount of $5,000.00 were approved for the Goheen Plumbing Company and the Northern
i Indiana Public Service Company. These were ordered filed.
