request from the Hoard to the T,Tax Adler Company to have a bad piece of sidewalk in front
of their place of business repaired:

In replNT to your letter of July 31, 1945 we have contacted the land-
lords, giving them the information contained in your letter. As soon as we hear from
them we will advise you, or perhaps they will contact you directly.

VACAT ICE T RESOLUTION NO. 2537
This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by
the Board of Public dorks for the vacation of the alley South of Pleasant Street from
25th Street to the Fast line of the Alley :`Jest of 25th Street, under vacation resolution
No. 2537. The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no
remonstrators having arpeared and no written rerionstrances having been filed with the
Clerk, it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolution be finally
adopted and the said alley be vacated. The Engineering Department is directed to, prepare
an assessment roll covering the assessment of benefits and the award of damages to the
surrounding properties.

pertaining to his department were discussed.
BOARD: The Board ;ranted permis ion to the Polish Army Veterans Association, Haller
Post, to sell Poppies on the city streets on August 25, 1945.
CE'ivhTERY DEPARTMENT: Mr. Stanley Leszczynski, Seaton, was present and matters;_: pertain-
ing to his department were discussed.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned

TRAFFIC DEPAR7'i'>IENT: 11r. Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters pertain
ing to his department were discussed.
ENGINEERING DEPARaniIENT: A petition was received aksing for the vacation of an alley
between Dubail and Randolph Streets from Marine Street to the East line of the first alle
',West of Marine Street.. This was referred to the City Plan Commission for investigation
and report.
Mr. "Nilliams informed the Board that he was in need of a new one-half ton pick-up I •
truck, and the Board directed the Clerk of the Board to' advertise for bids for same.
Bids will be accepted up to 11:00 A.Tvl. on September 17, 1945. li
Contrac:.or s bonds in the amount of 11,000.00 were approved for Homer L. Short and
Virgil H. Reed d/b/a Reed Construction Company, '�Ihiteomb & Yeller, Harr;- H. Verkler and
C. A. Jordan Company., These were ordered filed.

awards of damages and the assessments of benefits in the matter of the vacation of the (I

In the above named assessment roll, the board hereby orders that it will meet in
the City Hall at 11:00 A.L11. on the 17th day of September, 1945, for the purpose of hear- �I
ing and receiving remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by said vaca- Ij
Lion, and the Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together with the amount ;I
of damages awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners by publishin,
same on the 31st day of August and on the 7th day of September, 1945, in the South Bend ,
Daily Tribune and the 4eekly Mirror.

The Board decided that men on the Street Department who work on an hourly basis
j
should be paid for the days they worked during the V-J holiday and should be given a
I
two day paid vacation before the end of the year. The men aho did not work should be
paid for the two days they did not work.
