Re: Proposed 2018 Council Member Salary Ordinance
Dear Council Members:
Attached is the 2018 salary ordinance setting the Common Council's salary. The proposed Council
budget includes a salary increase for members of the Common Council at 2%. If approved, this
would be result in an increase of$381 over the current maximum salary.
I recommend that the proposed ordinance be referred to the Personnel and Finance Committee for
review and recommendation and then set for 2nd& 3Td readings and public hearing at the October
9th Common Council meeting. Thank you.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, SETTING THE ANNUAL SALARY FOR THE COMMON
COUNCIL MEMBERS FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2018
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT
The South Bend Common Council is required to fix the annual compensation of elected city
officers. Indiana Code § 36-4-7-2 authorizes the legislative body to carry out these
responsibilities.
This ordinance proposes a two percent (2 %) maximum increase for calendar year 2018 for the
nine-member Common Council.

Section I. The maximum salaries for the members of the South Bend Common Council for the
2018 calendar years shall be established as follows, which reflects a maximum 2% increase over
the 2017 maximum rate:

Section II. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the
Common Council, approval by the Mayor and legal publication.
