'Those present were Mr. Clyde E. Williams, and Mr. Ralph Longfield. +llr. Nathan Levy was absent. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Claims of the following suppliers were approved -and ordered paid: S. T. Fund or the Interceptor Sewer Fund were approved and ordered paid: Grand Tunk Nestern R.R. Co. 2.92 STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Anthony Zmudzinski, Street Coranissioner,was present and ratters pertaining to his department were discussed. ENGINEERING DEPARTIVI.ENT: A contractor's bond in the amount of $1,000.00 was approved for South Bend Builders Inc., and ordered filed. Mr. Williams presented carbon copies of letters sent to the Common Council rel- ative to meetings he has had with representatives of the Grand Trunk, New York Central and Pennsylvania Railroads, and the discussion of various types of safety signals for railroad crossings. Their construction erevvs are already at work repairing some of the crossings, and they plan the reconstruction of some crossings next spring. These letters were ordered filed. A petition was received asking for a local sewer on Duey Street from South Bend Avenue South to Howard Street. This was referred to the Engineering department for investigation and report. Upon being advised that the Federal grant of $17,250.00 was apportioned into various accounts for the execution of the Project, and that $p1,400.00 was set up in a miscellaneous account that would not be used, and that the construction account of $14,600.00 was insufficient to meet the entire construction cost of the Governments portion of the contract, the following motion_ was made, seconded and unanimously, carried: RESOLVED: That the Federal Works Agency be requested to transfer the 01,400,, in the miscellaneous account of the Federal Grant, Indiana 12-137 to the construction account. CEMETERY DEPARTMENT.* Mr. Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, was present and matters pertain- ing -to his department were discussed. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourne at 10:00 A.M. Nilliams: this will acknowledge receipt of your letter dated November 23, 1943 transmitting two (2) certified copies of the Proceedings of the 3oard of Public 'dVorks, South Bend, Indiana, in making an Award of Contract in connection with the above reference project. Also, an unofficial copy o_' the Ordinance presented to the City Council, November 22, 1943, transferring the funds for the payment of the balance of the project. The above mentioned Ordinance to be up for public hearing and action December 13, 1943, and subject to approval by the State Tax board. Kindly forward to this office at the earliest possible date at least one (1) executes and two (2) conformmed copies of the contract documents, and three (3) sets of plans, signed by bath the contractor and the owner. The executed copy of the contract documents and one plan will be returned to you upon completion of our examination_; the two conformed copies of documents and plans will be retained for our files. tf you desire our approval stamp on more than one executed copy of the contract documents, transmit as many copies as you wish. 'Zmudzinski that appraisers had been appointed for the sale of certain property belonging to the City Street Department. j� ENGINEERING DEPARTi:lENT:, The Engineering Departr:,ent presented a sketch pertaining to the petition.for the construction of a sewer on Duey Street from Howard Street to j! South -Bend Avenue. It was recommended that due to the scarcity of materials and also due to -the fact that the sewer would serve properties already being utilized, that this be considered a post-°�;rar project. The Board, upon motion duly made, seconded, ■ i and unanimously carried, authorized the Clerk to ,notify the principal petitioner of ;; this recorzaendation. Excavation bonds were approved and ordered filed for the following: Emmett Shaul, Emil Spromberg, Phillip Cohn, Albert Smith & Son, Jacob Hawblitzel & Son, Louis, C. Sto-11 Co.
