ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: PJIx°. O. D. Dausman.. District Plant Engineer,. of the Indiana Bell "Telephone Company, appeared -before the Board and submitted plans showing the proposed underground conduit and cable work on and South of East Jefferson Blvd., between St. Joseph Street and Hill Street. These plans were.approved by the Board and -were ordered placed on file. IaTr. Williams directed a letter to the Telephone Company informing , them of this approval. The.Board approved the plans and specifications for the construction of Access Road Project on Chippewa Avenue from Michigan Street to the Southmore Housing Project. The Clerk of the Board was authorized to advertise for bids. Bids will be received up to 10.:00 A.M. November.8, 1943.and will then be opened and read. TRAFFIC ENGINEER: "Mir. Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters pertain ing to his department were discussed. Mr. Miller was authorized by the Board to attend a Traffic Signal School in Syracuse, New York for one week starting November 22, 1943. CEMETERY DEPARTMENT: Mr. Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, presented his report for the month of October, 1943. Bid was from South Bynd Builders, Inc., and was accompanied by a bid bond check for $249.00 and a non -collusion affidavit. The bid is as follows: �l Bid to furnish,all material and labor necessary to complete the sewer work.on Duey Ii Avenue according to the plans and specifications prepared by the �'ity Engineer and �i now on file in the office of Board of Public works and Safety for the sum of I� Twenty Four Hundred Ninety Dollars. The bid was awarded to the South,Bend.Builders Inc. and a "contract, is being prepared. Contractors bonds were approved for Millard T. Hartman and Bernhard T. Johnson. These were ordered filed. I The Board acknowledged receipt of a resolution passed by the State Highway Comm- ission on October 27,, 1943 establishing a loading zone for the Peerless Supply Company on_Western Avenue. A petition was received asking that the 14 foot alley between lots 132 and 133 of the original plat of the City of South Bend, from the alley East of Ialichigan Street to the "Nest line of vacated North St. Joseph Street be vacated. This was now turned ii over to the City Plan Commission for investigation and report. • �i A document was received froze the First Bank and Trust Company proposing to jj dedicate a strip of land 16 feet in width taken off of and from the entire North side of lot 132 of the original plat of the City of South Bend. This was now turned over to the City Plan Commission for approval.
