Longf i e ld :BOARD 0,F PTJBLIC tX O-RKS The petition to vacate an alley lying East and adjacent to Lot # 8 in Victory Addition was denied by the City Plan Commission. The same petition requested the grading of that portion of said alley lying between the East line of Lot Ott 8 in Victory addition to Portage Avenue. This request was referred to the Street Co-missio'er. LEGAL DEPARTMENT: The Board -met to hear remonstrances and to tame final action on Declaratory resolution No. 2521 for the acquisition and condemnation of the property which is situate immediately South of the present South Bend City Hall and is more specifically described as follows. All of Lot No. Eight (8) of the Original Plat of the City of South Bend, except the North Tl.renty-two (22) feet thereof. No remonstrances being filed with or presented to the Board against said pro- posed condemnation of the above described property for a public use and, thereupon, the Board being fully advised in the matter, the Board now takes final action on said resolution confirming without,modification all former action taken on the same. 4- And the Board no,ry orders that a list or roll be propared of all owners or holders o= property and of valuable interest therein sought to be taken which list or roll shall also Describe the property either injuriously or beneficially affected. G. Christman Company, sub- NGlitted a plan for a drive way for the South Bend Tool Pc Die Company. This was approved and ordered filed. Mr. Place of the Crown Development Company, Crown Point, Indiana, came before the Board to discuss with them plans and sites for a Negro Housing Program. The Board advised him to contact the Park Department and the School City. A Contractors Bond was approved for Stanley T. 1.lachowiak, in the amount of h�1,000.00, held by the Fidelity w Deposit Company of I'aryland. 'nrilliarms, City Civil Engineer • A few months ago officials of the Belleville Lumber Company appeared before the Board and requested the Board to accept certain streets in Bercliff Addition for maintenance under present conditions. The request was made because agreement with the F.H.A. requir s pavement and it is impossible at this time to obtain paving materials. • n U C7 • A recent inspection was made of the unpaved portion of Timber Lane and also Oakcrest Drive from Timber Zane to 35th Street. A profile was requested to determine if these streets have been graded to the grade established by this Board. The streets have been graded approximately to the established -~-fade, and bank run gravel has been installed approximately 20 feet in width and 6 inches in depth on or near the center line of these streets. Even though this gravel is not exactly to grade, it being as much as one foot below grad in some places, the Engineering Department recommends that it be accepted for maintenanc The remainder of the roadway section is in satisfactory condition. If and.when resur- facing material is available, it will the to bring the final grade to its proper elevation. jThis was approved by the Board and ordered filed. Mr. Perkins, one of the Trustees of the Borian Cemetary, came before the Board to request that the City take over the operation of the Cemetary. The Board took this advisement, and it was suggested that 1Ir. Perkins submit his proposal to the Board in writing, before any action be made. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 10 :00 A,I. STREET DEPARTIT,IENT: L1r. Tony Zmudzinski, Street Comte issioner was present at the meeting and matters pertaining to his department were discussed. MMr. Zmudzinski turned over to the Board �')9.00 for the use of the grader and $2.00 from the sale of junk. The Board having approved the specifications for one new or used power driven street sweeper, as prepared and submitted by the Engineering Department, the Clerk is hereby authorized to advertise for bids.to be received in the office of the Board of Public ;storks and Safety until 10:00 A.1i% June 21, 1943, at which time they will be publicly opened and read. TRAFFIC ENGINEER: Mr. Ernest Miller, traffic Engineer, was present at the meeting and matters pertaining to his department were discussed.
