STREET DEPARTMENT: Mir. Tony Zmudzinshi was present at the meeting; and matters
pertaining to his department were discussed.
The Board authorized ,sir. Zmudzinski to purchase one used Adams Idiultiple Blade
Road 14aintainer at iN850.00 and one new250 gallon Tar Kettle at 8250.00
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: IIr. 'Xilliams presented a rental agreement. between the State
Highway Commission of Indiana and the City of South Bend, for the rental of one
Centerline I:Aarking Prlachine. This was approved by the Board and ordered filed.
LEGAL DLPART1;IEIyT: IIr. Joseph lHoper, Assistant City Attorney, was authorized to settle.
the claims of Yar•ie I,,Iatthews vs. the City of South Bend, for personal injuries alleged
suffered by her in October of 1941, when she caught her heel in a hole in the sidewalk
and fell, near the intersection of LaSalle Avenue and Scott Street, for a sum not to
exceed 1�'P150.00
Upon motion duly made and seconded the following resolution was adopted:
RESOLVED: that the claim of I':,Trs. Katherine Bendit, for damages to her car allegedly
suffered when she drove into a hole in the street in the 800 block on South Chapin
Street, in the amount of be allowed.

ENGITEERING DEPARTMENT: nr. Williams presented a letter from the New York Central
Railroad stating that a car load of material was expected and that they would be able
to start repairing the Twyckenhatia Crossing about the first of May.
The Board authorized i'Ir. Clyde li'�illiams, City`Civil Engineer; to go to Chicago"
April 20 and 21st, to inspect the construction of patented asphalt Material for use
in patching streets.
LEGAL.,DEPARTIYiENT: The hearing on the condemnation proceedings for the property which •
lies immediately south of the present City mall had been postponed until this date, and
was again postponed until April 26. No remonstrators appeared.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned
at 10 :00 A.Y.

The Board aurhorized 111Ir. Zmudzinski to have a street s:�reeper completely over-
hauled by the I,iunicipal Supply Company at a cost of $458.00
I?. Zmudzinski presented :15.00 to the Board which was received from the Tucker
Company for the use of the grader.
ENGINEERIlM DEPARUDIE1TIT : The Traffic Engineer, at the recuest of the Board, has written
a letter to the Chicago, South Bend. and South Shore Railroad, to determine whether br `
not they would install certain ,warning signs along their richt of way intersections"
immediately.

postponed until the morning of May 3, 1943. No remonstrators appeared.
