MEETING -- FEBRUARY 8, 1943
A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, February 8, 1943
at 9:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of the last meeting were read and
approved. Salary claims, in the amount of $7,227.02 were approved and ordered paid.
Claims of the following suppliers, in'the amount of $9326.21 were approved and ordered
paid.

STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Tony Zmudzinski, turned over to the Board $7.50, received for
the sale of junk.
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: This being the date set for the hearing of the resolution
heretofore adopted by the Board, for the vacation of 4.5 feet off of the East side, and
4.5 feet off of the 'Nest side of the alley west of Twyckenham Drive, from Chester Street
to the alley north of Mishawaka Avenue, reserving a five foot strip centered on center
line of said alley as a public way, and the hearing on said resolution having been set
for 10:00 A. Id. on the 8th day of February, 1943, and publication having been made in
the South Bend Tribune and the Mirror, on the 22nd day of January and the 29th day of
January, 1943 respectively, and now being 10:30 A. M on the 8th day of February, and
no one having appeared in opposition to said resolution, it was moved, seconded and
unanimously carried, that resolution #2515 vacating said alley be finally adopted and
said alley nr vacated. The Engineering Department is directed to prepare an assessment
roll covering the benefits and damages to the surrounding property.
CEMETERY DEPARTMENT: Lisle McNabb presented his report for the month of January, 1943,
The Board approved the 1943 contract for the supply of Mazda Lamps, with the
Westinghouse Electric & Mfg. Co. This contract was ordered filed.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjoured at
10:00 A. 11.

A regular meeting of the Board of Public ;Yorks was held on Monday, February 15,
1943 at 9:00 A. M. All members were present, Mr. Ralph Longfield having replaced Mr.
Harry S. Driggs, who resigned. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.

STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Tony Zmudzinski was present and matters pertaining to his depart-
ment were discussed.
The Board having reviewed the proposed ordinance and agreement between the City of
South Rend and the Bureau o,f Public Roads, relative to the pavement and maintainance of
South Masri Street and Chippewa Avenue, recommends that the ordinance be passed and the
agreement executed.
The pavement has been constructed by the Bureau of Roads, and the,City, upon
acceptance must provide rnaintainance according to ,law, consequently this ordinance and
agreement is a technicality.
Mr. Hahn and Mr. Watterson, of the Northern Indiana Transit Co., appeared before the
Board to discuss the changing of routes by the transit company, without advising the
Board of their action, in advance.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned at
10:00 A. M.

STREET DEPARTMENT: Commissioner Anton Zmudzinsr-,i appeared before the Board and matters
pertaining to his department were discussed.
CEMETERY DEPARTEENTT Mr. Lisle McNabb appeared before the Board and matters pertaining
to his department here discussed.
ENGINEERING DEPAR=ENT: A letter was received from the New York Central R.R. Co. in I
reply to a letter written them by the Board, regarding the condition of the crossing at
Lincolnway N. This letter was read to the Board. They advised that repairs will be made
as soon as weather permits.
TRAFFIC DEPARTI3IENT: Mr. Ernest „Tiller, Traffic Engineer was present and YRYTas authorized ,�
by the Board to hire temporary help.
