A regular meeting of the Board of Vi)blic JVorks was held on R�ionday, December 22, 194
at 9:00 A. 1,1. Two members were present . I;Ir. Clyde E. 111illiarls being absent. Minutes
of the last meeting were read and approved, Claims of the following suppliers, in the
amount of'$8905.11 were approved and ordered paid.

STREET DEPARTMENT: TYIr. Tony 7mudzinski was present and matters pertaining to his depart
ment were discussed.
The Board authorized the Street Commissioner to -purchase a boiler from the National
Mill Supply Co., at a price of $679.00, this boiler to be installed in the street de-
1partment offices, and to be of sufficient size to properly heat same.
I.Ir. Zmudzinski advised the Board that the'Street Department had closed Knoblock Road
and Maple Lane Road, at the north end of the airport. This was done upon instructions
of the Traffic Engineer, IiIr. Miller, and approved by the Board of Works. These roads
are to be closed during the emergency period, for better protection of the County airpor
and its fatalities.
This being the date set, bids on the repair of the Sample Street bridge wore opened
and publically read, and it was moved that the proposals be given to the Engineering
Department for tabulation and compilation as to their compliance to the advertised
specifications. The Engineering Department will return the bids and the a;aard will be
made on 'flednesday, December 24, 1941,

ENGINEERING DEPt�TMENT: Mr. 11el S. Iliemier, of the Studebaker'Corporation., appeared
be�ore the Board, with the Building Commissioner, 1�1r. Dalton 11loomaw, to request a varian
in building being constructed for defense purposes. The variance .vas to permit three
wood walls in lieu of brick walls, because of the immediate need of the building.
The variance was allowed by the Board, because of the defense emergency, and subject
to the following conditions: That if, after the defence emergency, the Studebaker
Corporation desire to mace use of the bul_lding for their own purposes, the wood walls
will be removed and walls complying ,with the building code be erected.
Excavation bonds, in the amount of $1000.00 were received for J. B. Fleck Sr., Thi
Bros., and Arthur Deppert. These bonds ,,.ere approved and ordered f _1_led.

ELECTRIC DEPARTMENT: A petition was received from the River Park Civic Assn., and others,
asking that street lights be installed at North Side Blvd., and 34th St., 35th St., and
36th St. This petition v�ras turned over to Mr. Qualls for investigation and report.
A telephone call to the Mayor was reported, asking that a street light be installed
in the vicinity of #1222 25th St. This information was turned over to Mr. Qualls for
investigation and report.
The Board authorized i'a'Ir. Qualls to order'a street light installed at Eclipse St., an
Calhoun St. This is to be a 4000 lumen light.
CEMETERY DEPARTMENT: Mr. Lisle IaicNabb, Sexton, presented his financial statement for the
month of November, 1941,
Mr. Samuel Caffman advised the Board of a change in parking prices.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned at
10:30 A. TvT.
