All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved. Salary claims in the total amount of $909935.13 were read and approved. The petition for a street light on Cleveland Avenue from Lincolnway West to second alley North was submitted to the Board and referred to the Electrical Department for fur- ther investigation and recommendation. POLICE DEPARTMENT Applications for the Police Department were examined and placed on file for Charles Graham. FIRE DEPARTMENT The application for membership in the Firemen's Pension Fund submitted by Joseph Vandel Nagy was found acceptable and said Nagy's membership to the South Bend Fire De- partment becomes fully effective as of August 16, 1956. FirE Chief Alex Andrzjewski requested permission to attend a Firemen's Convention in Indianapolis on the 4th, Pith, 6th, and 7th days of September. Permission granted. The bids for the fire hose for the South Bend Fire Department whi6h were filed with the Board last Monday, August 6, 1956 were now taken under advisement by the Board. The contract is now awarded to Midwest Fire & Safety Company, 1605 Prospect Avenue, Indiana- polis, Indiana which reads as follows: 270 1250 ft. 22" double jacket cotton rubber lined Bi-Lateral Dacrillon Brand fire hose with Dacron filler cords treated against mildew and rot complete with couplings price. o o e o $2450.00 300 feet 1i" double jacket cotton rubber lined Bi-Lateral Dacrillon Brand fire hose with Dacron filler cords treated against mildew and rot complete with couplings price. $453.00 NET TOTAL . . . . .$2,903.00 The bids for the Police Department were now .opened and examined. Proofs of publi- catiog in the South Bend Tribune with a:r-affidavit signed by C. G. Livengood and in the Record with an affidavit signed by W. bbiCanio on the 3t'dh day of Auge, and the i0thr4dxy of Aug;= 1956 were submitted to the Board. The bids read as follows Motorola Communications & Electronics A non -collusion affidavit and a certi- 3334 Badger, South West fied check in the amount.of $140.00 Grand Rapids, Michigan accompanied the bid. 2 2-way P-33-6 Handi Talkie Transmitter and Receiver Net total for 2 . . . . .$1,382.00 The Board now awards the contract to the above named company. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 10:30 A.M. (DST).
