A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA,
PUBLICLY CONGRATULATING MS. INDONESIA("INDY") BROWN, A JOHN ADAMS HIGH
SCHOOL STUDENT, FOR HER ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND HER SELECTION BY MAYOR
BUTTIGIEG AS THE 2017 SOUTH BEND MERIT AWARD WINNER FOR SCOUTING
6*1 , Ms. Indonesia("Indy") Brown is a junior at John Adams High School and was recently selected
by Mayor Pete Buttigieg as the 2017 winner of the South Bend Mayor's award for scouting, presented to Indy
Brown at the Mayors' Luncheon for Scouting on May 3, 2017 sponsored by the La Salle Council of Boy Scouts
of America. This regional event honors one resident from each of the cities of Elkhart,Mishawaka,Plymouth and
South Bend selected by their Mayor, who quietly serves their respective community without expecting or
receiving reward or recognition; and
GA)",Indy Brown is a dedicated,highly involved student at John Adams High School who participates
in mock trial; sports team management; marching,jazz and pep bands; the John Adams Volunteer Association;
the anti-violence/anti-bullying program known as Take Ten, and Innovative Thinkers where she is a facilitator.
She is also a dedicated actor participating in ShakeScenes, the youth Shakespeare program sponsored by the
University of Notre Dame and is a member of Notre Dame's TRiO program; and
6A", throughout her years at John Adams High School, Indy has been a HADARI scholar, and this
year was inducted into the National Honor Society. She has served as a class officer every year of high school as
vice president and treasurer. She has demonstrated further leadership in the greater South Bend Community by
participating in South Bend's Youth Neighborhood Leadership Council which has brainstormed, proposed and
implemented the Kelly Park Project for the betterment of that area's community, and,
6A)". Indy has also served nearly two years on the South Bend Youth Task Force which has benefitted
from her stellar communication skills and her belief that South Bend can benefit from a strong youth voice in the
community. She represented South Bend as Student Youth Ambassador in Louisville, Kentucky at the National
Seminar sponsored by Engaging Youth, Engaging Neighborhoods ; and
GA)", the motto of Indy Brown is to "give my 100% effort at all times, [and to] always look back and
see what I can improve on and engage others to do the same"; and
GA)", what separates Indy Brown from others is her natural leadership and her belief that "being a
leader isn't only leading and helping others, but taking advice from others on how to improve oneself."

Section I. The South Bend Common Council proudly recognizes Indonesia Brown for her receipt of the 2017
South Bend Mayor's scouting award along with her many other notable accomplishments,and the Council wishes
her all the best as she continues to pursue and achieve her future goals and dreams.
