Presented by me to the Mayor of the City of South Bend, Indiana NOVEMBER 26, 1963 d / City Clerk Approved and signed by me NOVEMBER 26, 19 63 Mayor R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY, the President of the United States, died in the City of Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963, at the hand of an assassin; and, WHEREAS, the residents of the City of South Bend, Indiana, are grieved and disturbed at the great loss to our community, to our Country, to the world and to the family; and, WHEREAS, the residents of the City of South Bend have joined and desire to continue to join all peoples in paying tribute to this great American and to this great man of our world; and, WHEREAS, JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY has been the beacon of light in these troubled times in this world of ours and through him a cold war was turned into peace and unemployment and poverty were turned into prosperity and through him all people were considered and recognized as human beings. NOW, THEREFORE, WE, THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, express our deep sorrow and the sorrow of our community at the loss of this great human being and we recognize that his past has been short but his doings during this past will make our future brighter for our world. BE IT RESOLVED FURTHER that this Council go on record as pledging its cooperation to the President of the United States LYNDON BAINES JOHNSON, and we hope and pray that with all America working together PRESIDENT LYNDON BAINES JOHNSON will carry on the great works of JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY.
