the center of the state's population growth and economic expansion and
WHEREAS, Northern Indiana is not now adequately served by the
existing state medical center in Indianapolis and
j WHEREAS, Northern Indiana has the two prerequisites for a
medical center, namely a large population and a university with strong
graduate and research programs and
WHEREAS, the Committee on Higher Education in Northern Indiana is
working diligently to bring about the establishment of a second state medical
center at a central Northern Indiana location near the University of Notre
Dame and
WHEREAS, Notre Dame has expressed complete willingness to co-operate
with a state medical center which would have enormous social and economic
impact on all of Northern Indiana now
THEREFORE, be it resolved by the South Bend Common Council that the
City of South Bend and all of its citizens stand ready to assist in the Northern
Indiana Medical Center Project and they urge the administrative, legislative
