Committee Chair John Voorde called the Public Works &Property Vacation Committee Meeting
to order at 3:33 p.m. Committee Chair Voorde introduced the council members on the
committee.
Committee Chair Voorde then introduced the one (1) item on the agenda, Bill No. 07-17-
Northern Indiana History Museum Alley Vacation.
Presenting for the History Museum were Jon Cook, 63460 Orange Rd., and Brandon Anderson,
808 W. Washington St. Mr. Anderson referenced the PDF file presented and noted the existing
property of the History Museum, as well as other properties acquired throughout the years. He
stated they will be expanding their site, starting in 2010, and are poised to purchase parcel
number fourteen(14)by the end of February. He stated, By vacating Jefferson St. we are
creating the ability to be able to move the Pierre Navarre cabin from Leeper Park East to our site.
We have owned that cabin since the 1800's.
Committee Chair Voorde opened the floor to questions from the Council Committee members.
There were no questions from committee members.
Councilmember Tim Scott asked, Is there a reason for moving the cabin from Leeper Park?

Mr. Anderson answered, It would allow us to do future programming like Civil War Days, Cabin
Days, and other historical based programs for school.
Committee Chair Voorde gave further clarification to the history of the lot, specifically Jefferson
Street and former placement of the alley and land parcels.
Mr. Cook then explained how the process started ten(10) years ago. There was an alley
inadvertently left when the land was plotted for the museum. During those years,they've added a
few parcels of land to the existing property. There are a few possibilities that were researched
and within the fifty (50) year plan of the History Museum,the properties look to be absorbed
anyway and the problem of the alleyway goes away on its own. While it remains a half-alley, it
is alright with everyone for now.
With no other questions or comments from the committee or the public, Committee Chair
Voorde opened the floor to motions from the Committee.
Committeemember Gavin Ferlic made a motion to send Bill No. 07-17 to the full Council
favorably. Committeemember Randy Kelly seconded this motion, which carried unanimously by
a voice vote of four(4) ayes.
With no other business on the committee agenda, Committee Chair Voorde adjourned the
meeting at 3:38 p.m.
