Interviews for Council Commission Appointees
Council Vice President Oliver Davis called the meeting to order at 6:06 p.m. The Council went
over the agenda for that night's formal Council meeting and detailed the recommendations for
each bill from the various committees.
Council Vice President Davis then gave the floor to Councilmember Gavin Ferlic to chair the
interview portion of the meeting.
Linda Zach stated, I just wanted to get more involved. I've been a volunteer at the shelter for
about three (3) years now. I know when you're at the shelter three (3)hours a week, you really
get an education on the public and people. I think if I was on the committee and there was a case
I think I could be fair. I consider myself a realist so I know sometimes you have to make hard
decisions.
Councilmember John Voorde asked, Were you part of the ad hoc group that rewrote Chapter five
(5)?
Ms. Zach answer,No, but I came to the meetings. I think it was well worth it.
Councilmember Ferlic excused Ms. Zach and brought to the table Lois Myers.
Ms. Myers stated, I've been doing animal rescue for about forty (40) years. I've been a dog
groomer since 1976. I've worked as a vet-tech and was interim manager for a shelter. I train

service dogs and currently I have three (3)right now that actually came from Animal Care and
Control that are training to become service dogs. I started training in 1999. I know the shelter
and how to work in a shelter. I also worked in the prosecutor's office in child support. I have a
bachelor degree in criminal justice, graduating with high academic honors. I know the law.
When I was interim director they privatized the shelter so I know how a shelter runs. Until you
actually work there, people can't just make judgments. I try to see both sides of everything.
Councilmember Regina Williams-Preston asked, Are you working with the shelter now?
Ms. Meyers answered, I'm the president of Mixed-up Muts and have been with them for over six
(6) years.
Councilmember Jo M. Broden commented, Thank you for the letter and your energy.
Councilmember Ferlic excused Ms. Meyers and brought to the table Tami Barbour.
Ms. Barbour stated, I have twenty(20) years of experience in early childhood. I love working
with young children and I love working with animals. My profession is early childhood but now
animals are my hobby. I started attending some SBACC meetings and now take pictures for them
and their Facebook. I've gotten much more involved in it. I've served on boards before for early
childhood and initially I didn't think of doing this. But I was encouraged to apply and I am
excited for this sort of thing because I have an understanding of how it works. There is a lot more
work to be done and I want to be a part of that work. I have the time to be helpful and realize
there may be someone else more helpful. There are a lot of community relations issues at the
moment. I love everyone and I really think everyone has their talents and their challenges.
Instead of focusing on the challenges, I want to focus on people's talents and what they have to
offer. The shelter needs more resources.
Councilmember Randy Kelly asked, What is your early childhood program?
Ms. Barbour replied, It's Wee Friends. We have a magnificent staff.
With no other on the agenda, Council Vice President Davis adjourned the meeting at
635 m.
