A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,
INDIANA, DECLARING THE WEEK OF MARCH 24 — 31
AS FARMWORKER AWARENESS WEEK IN SOUTH BEND, INDIANA
6�iexarQ the South Bend Common Council notes that National Farmworker Awareness Week (NFAW)
is a week of action to raise awareness about farmworker issues in our communities; and
G*%� this year marks the 18th Annual Farmworker Awareness Week which provides opportunities to
learn about farmworker conditions and to honor their important contributions to society; and
6� 85% of our fruits and vegetables are handpicked by an estimated 2 -3 million men, women, and
children working in farm fields throughout the United States. Farms are in every state yet farmworkers remain
largely invisible and continue to live and work in horrific conditions. Farm work is the third most dangerous job
in the United States; and
G e;Pe this year Farmworker Awareness Week coincides with Cesar Chavez's birthday on March 31 St
Cesar Chavez dedicated himself to non - violent organizing for fair wages, safer working conditions and dignity
for the men, women and children who work in the fields.

Section I. On behalf of the residents of the City of South Bend, the South Bend Common Council is proud
to honor all of the thousands of men, women and children who plant, cultivate, harvest and process our agricultural
products throughout the State of Indiana and throughout the United States.
Section II. The Common Council hereby declares the week of March 24 — 31, 2017 as Farmworker
Awareness Week in South Bend, Indiana, and calls upon everyone to reflect upon the tireless efforts of Cesar
Chavez whose dedication and commitment to raise awareness has helped bring justice to those who toil in the
fields.

UNA RESOLUCION DEL CONSEJO COMUN DE LA CIUDAD DE SOUTH BEND, INDIANA,
DECLARANDO LA SEMANA DEL 24 -31 DE MARZO
COMO SEMANA NACIONAL DE LOS CAMPESINOS EN SOUTH BEND, INDIANA
dexamrla, el Consejo Comun de South Bend observa que Semana Nacional de Los Campesinos es una
semana de accion para crear conciencia sobre cuestiones de trabajadores agricolas en nuestras comunidades; y
iz6ldera,�zda, este ano se celebra la 18a Annual Semana de Los Campesinos que ofrece oportunidades de
aprender acerca de las condiciones de los trabajadores del campo y para honrar sus contribuciones importantes a
la sociedad; y
�on6ldexa.�zday 85% de nuestras frutas y verduras son seleccionado por un estimado 2 millones hombres,
mujeres y ninos que trabajan en campos agricolas de los Estados Unidos. Granjas se encuentran en cada estado
pero los trabajadores agricolas sigue siendo en gran parte invisibles y continuaran a vivir y trabajar en condiciones
terribles. El trabajo agricola es el tercero mas peligroso de los trabajos en los Estados Unidos; y
n�[dexamda, este ano Semana de Los Campesinos coincide con el cumpleanos de Cesar Chavez el 31 de
marzo. Cesar Chavez se dedico a la organizacion no violenta para salarios justos, condiciones de trabajo mas
seguras y dignidad para los hombres, mujeres y ninos que trabajan en los Campos.
Seccion I. De parte de los residentes de la Ciudad de South Bend, el Consejo Comun de South Bend esta
orgulloso de honrar todos los miles de hombres, mujeres y ninos que plantan, cultive, coseche y procese nuestros
productos agricolas en todas partes del estado de Indiana y en todas partes de los Estados Unidos.
Seccion II. El Consejo Comun declara la semana del 24 al 31 de marzo de 2017 como la Semana de Los
Campesinos en South Bend, Indiana, y pide a cada uno a reflexionar sobre los esfuerzos incansables de Cesar
Chavez cuya dedicacion y el compromiso de levantar la conciencia han ayudado a traer a la justicia a aquellos
que trabajan duro en los campos.
Seccion III. Esta resolucion estara en plena vigencia y efecto desde y despues de su aprobacion por el
