A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
January 89 1962 at 10:00 A.M. CST. All members were present. Minutes
of the last regular meeting were read and approved.
DISMISSAL OF CHARGES ( RALPH MULLINS, POLICE DEPT.)
Comes now Chief of Police Harmon and requests that the charges heretofore
filed against Ralph Mullins, patrolman on the South Bend Police Department
be dismissed.
Based on the recommendation of the Chief of Police, said charges are
dismissed.
RESIGNATION FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT ( RALPH MULLINS)
Comes now Orson Harmon, Chief of Police of the South Bend Police Department
and informs the Board that said request for dismissal of charges filed
against Ralph Mullins was predicated upon dismission of request for
resignation by said Ralph Mullins. The Chief of Police now submits
copy of the request for resignation of the said Ralph Mullins.
Said request, being examined and read, said resignation is accepted,
effective January 1, 1962.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( SUB -STANDARD DIVISION) HEARINGS
Comes now John Grabarz and reports that the property owned by Mr. Silber,
located at 1738 Lincolnway East, presents a problem due to the fact that
Mr. Silber has not as yet moved into the new building. However, Mr.
Grabarz reported that as soon as Mr. Silber obtains a transfer for his
liquor license, arrangements.can be completed to make the required move
and demolish the old building now standing.
Mr. Grabarz requested a continuation of the hearing, pending the
accomplishment of the above transfer of liquor license.
Case continued until March 12, 1962.
A progress report on property located at 1147 N. Johnson Street was
given by Mr. Grabarz and Battalion Chief Downes. No work has been done
on this property and Mr. Jerkins who was requested to appear at this
meeting the a hearing has failed to do so.
Mr. Grabarz reported that Mr. Jerkins had been notified of said hearing.
Under these circumstances, it was the decision of the Board that since
Mr. Jerkins has not brought property up to standard as previously ordered,
Mr. Grabarz was directed to secure bids for demolition.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( REPORT ON LIGHT POLES)
Comes now Verner Lane and informs the Board that a pole put out on the
curb line to support two flood el9dtric lights at the northwest corner
of Lincolnway West and College Street should be removed.
The Board, after hearing Mr. Lane, directed him to have said pole removed
from public property.
WEIGHTS & MEASURES MONTIHLY REPORT
A monthly report for December, 1961 was submitted to the Board by Bert
Cichowicz, examined and accepted and ordered placed on file.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT
A monthly report from the Building Department for December, 1961 was
submitted to the Board, examined, accepted and ordered placed on file.
APPLICATION ( POLICE AUXILIARY SCHOOL PATROL)
An application from Mariam Romaine Dreibelbeis for the Police Auxiliary
School Patrol was examined, accepted and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 10:30 A.M.
