A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Tuesdayt
January 29 19621 at 10:00 A.M. CST. Messrs.`,Ray S. Andrysiak and Edwin
L Davie s"were':present. Minutes of the last regular meeting and the
special meeting were read and approved.
REPORT: TRAFFIC ENGINEER ( DOSE .ALLEYS - Y.M.C.A. BUILDING PROGRAM)
Comes now Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, with a report on the temporary
closing of two alleys which adjoin the Y.M.C.A. Building at 226 S.
Main Street because of demolition and construction work at the Y.M.C.A.
Building.
Mr. Hazinski reported that he had met with Mr. Edwin VanRyn of the firm
of Maurer & Maure, architects with reference to the above.
In the interest of safety, Mr. Hazinski reported as follows:
1. The alley running east and west between 200 block South Polk
Street and 200 S. Main Street for a period of approximately
14 months, beginning on or about March 11, 1962.
2. Polk Street, from the 100 block West Wayne Street, north to
first alley intersection, for short periods of time in May and
June 1962, according to dictates of necessity.
Since this alley closing will affect occupants of buildings in the
immediate vicinity, this department will arrange meetings with them and
other agencies to provide for delivery and pick-up and ease of congestion.
Following the recommendation of Mr. Hazinski, the Board approved the
above suggestion and Mr. Hazinski was directed to proceed as indicated
in his report.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ( PETITION FOR STREET LIGHT)
A Petition from residents of Roosevelt Street for a Street Light midway
between Cushing and Sherman on Roosevelt Street was referred to the
Electrical Department for investigation and recommendation.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.

The following Special Police Bonds were approved and ordered placed on

FIRE DEPARTMENT ( ATTEND INSTRUCrOR'S TRAINING COURSE)
Chief Alex Andrzejewski requested permission to send Captain Paul L. Flary,
Assistant Instiu ctor, to Purdue University Fire Instructor's Training
Course on January 15-19, 1962.
Permission granted.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( NEW EMPLOYEE)
Mr. Lyle Easterday was appointed and sworn in as a Residential Building
Inspector with the Building Department, effective January 1, 1962.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT (-SUB-STANDARD DIVISION - HEARINGS),
Comes now John Grabarz and William Downes to report on property located
at 1147 N. Johnson Street, owned by Mr. Jerkins.
In accordance with the Board's instructions,,this property has been.
checked every two weeks by Mr. Grabarz and Chief Downes as to progress
made in bringing this property up to standard. This was to have been
accomplished by this date, but, according to the reports submitted by
Mr.. Grabarz and Chiaf Downes no work has b een done to date.
The Board authorized Mr. Grabarz to contact the owner and direct him to
appear at the Board meeting. on January 8, 1962 to chow cause why property
has not been brought up to standard.
A hearing concerning Max Silber property scheduled for today was continued
until January S. 19629 to allow time for proof of receipt of letter from
Mr. Grabarz' Department.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was
