A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, October
99 1961 at 10:00 A.M. DST. Messrs. R. S. Andrysiak and Edwin L. Davies were
present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers
were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
PERMISSION TO At&.( FIRE DEPARTMENT) SEDAN AND STATION WAGON
The Fire Chief was granted permission to place advertisements for bids
for one Four Door Sedan and one Four Door Station Wagon, with trade-ins
for the use of the Fire Department. Advertisements will be run on October
13 and 20, 1961 and sealed bids will be opened at the meeting of the Board
on October 23, 1961.
FIRE DEPARTMENT - PERM_ISSION TO ATTEND FIRE INSPECTOR'S SCHOOL
The Fire Chief was granted permission to send Battalion Chief Oscar
Van Wiele to Purdue University from October 30 to November 3, 1961 to
attend a Fire Inspector's School at this time and place. Permission
granted.
°! TRAFFIC ENGINEER - PERMISSION TO ATTEND NATIONAL CONGRESS
Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, was granted permission to attend an
Engineering School, National Safety Congress in Chicagq, Illinois on
October 18, 1961.
SPECIAL POLICE APPOINTMENTS AND BONDS ;r
The following wei appointed'Special Police Officers: Allie Ahmen Jojo!s
Bond was approved and ordered placed on file. Eugene Robert Benninghoff
was appianted Special Police Officer.
AUXILIARY POLICE APPLICATIONS
The following applications for Auxiliary School Patrol for the Police
Deja rtment: Helen Eleanore Kasten and Doris Madge Smurr. The applications
were ordered placed on file.
POLICE DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT
A Report for the month of August, 1961 from the Police Department was
accepted and ordered placed on file.
_STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORT
A Street Light Outage Report was accepted and ordered placed on file.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT MONTTW Y REPORT
A Monthly Report for September, 1961 from the Building Department was
accepted and ordered placed on file.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION
Comes now Mr. John Jerkins, owner of property located at 1147 Johnson
Street to show cause why damages caused by_a fire in May, 1961 have not
been repaired. Mr. Jerkins advised the Board that he had made a cash
settlement with the insurance company prematurely and that actual repairs
would be much higher than he had anticipated. He wished an extension of
time to investigate and determine whether it would be worth his while
to make repairs or whether to have house demolished.
Case continued until January 2, 1961 at which time Mr. Jerkins will
report on status of property.
Batallion Xhief Downes and Mr. Grabarz directed to make investigation of
property every two weeks and keep Board informed so that the Board can
determine whether the owner is putting forth the proper effort to get
property up to standard.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 10:50 A.M.

A special meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Wednesday,
October 119 1961 at 2:30 -.P.M. members were present.
POLICE DEPARTMEM' APPOINTMENT'
At the S}2eutia1 meeting heldt.this date, Leonard R. Sieradzki, having
fulfilled all requirements for the Police Department, was present
and sworn into the Police Department. Said appointment will become
effective October 14, 1961 and his, acceptance by the Police Pension
Fund, will become effective as of this date.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 2:45 P.M.
