A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, October
2, 1961 at 10:00 A.M. DST. Minutes of the last regular meeting and the
special meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered
paid to the various suppliers. All members were present.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER ( TRAFFIC SIGNS)
The Board approved the inst4llation of the following traffic signs upon
the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer:
2 - 2 Hr. Time Limit Parking 6 A.M. to 6-P.M. installed in front of
2007 S. Michigan
2 - 30 Min. Parking 6 A.M. to 6 P.M. installed at 106-114 N. Walnut St.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT (
STREET LIGHTS)
Following the recommendation
of Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of the
Electrical Department,
the
following installations were approved:

CIVIL DEFENSE MINUTES
Minutes of a Meeting of
the
St. Joseph County Civil Defense Advisory Council
held on September 13, 1961
were presented to the Board, accepted and
ordered placed on file.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT (SUB -STANDARD DIV.) HEARINGS
Hearing on a case regarding
property located at 232 Sample Street,.was
continued until October
9,
1961.
With reference to property at 830 S. Rush Street, purchased by Mr. Taylor,
which has been condemned, Mr. Grabarz reported that Mr. Taylor had promised
to bring house up to standard but that this had not been accomplished to date.
After hearing Mr. Taylor and being assured by Mr. Taylor that he wanted to
continue remodeling this dwelling and that said remodeling would be completed
by December, the Board continued the case until December 11, 1961 at which
time structure should be up to standard.
Mr. Grabarz issued a progress report on property owned by Mrs. Chause at
917 N. Francis Street, a repair order issued in June, 1961 has not been
complied with in the 60 days allowed for such repairs.
Case continued for one week.
With reference to property at 612 Jackson Street, the owner failed to appear
at this meeting as ordered. Mr. Grabarz was instructed to proceed with
demolition.
Mr. Grabarz reported that a new'house under construction at 417 St. Vincent
Street was creating a hazard because of weeds and the fact that the con-
struction has not been completed and poses problems for vandalism and injury.
After hearing Mr. Grabarz, the Board ruled that the case be continued for
two weeks before emergency action is taken.
Mr. Grabarz reported that Mrs. Edward Dobbs, 3821 W. Washington Avenue had

failed to comply with repair order.
The Board directed Mr. Grabarz to call upon Mrs. Dobbs to ascertain the
reason for this non-compliance
SPECIAL POLICE
The Board approved the appointment of Allie Ahmen Jojo as a Special
Police Officer. Mr. ,dojo is employed by Azar's, South Bend, Indiana.
_POLICE DEPARTMENT (APPLICATION)
An application for the Police Department from Charles T. Moore was accepted
FIRE DEPARTME W APPLICATION)
An application for the Fire Department from Kenneth Matthew Fleishaker
was accepted and ordered placed on file.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was
adjourned at 10:50 A.M.
