August 21, 1961 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, August 21, 1961 at 10:00 A.M. DST. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ( STREET LIGHTS) Following the recommendation of Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of the Electrical Department, the Board approved the installation of the following street lights: The 1. A 4000 lumen light at Vernerlee Lane & Rose St. 2. A 4000 lumen light at Arcadia & Rose St. 3. A 4000 lumen light at Ketterling & Spokane St. 4. A 4000 lumen light at 1044 N. Goodland Ave. 5. A 4000 lumen light at Kaley & Marquette. 6. A 4000 lumen light at 1101 W. Hancock 7. A 25000 lumen light at 423 S. Camden (In rear alley). 1. 2. 3. also approved the Remove 6 - 4000 lumen lights Remove 2 - 6000 lumen lights Install 15 - 109000 lumen arterial lights, (Plan filed with Electrical Department) as per attached plan. The Common Council referred a petition from Mrs. Marguerite Whorton and others for a light in the 3000 block on Prast and Frederickson Street alley because 6t prowlers in the neighborhood to the Board. The Board, after examination of the petition, referred it to the Electrical Department for investigation and report. STREET LIGHT s©UTAGE::-RERORT A Street Light Outage Report was accepted by the Board and ordered placed on file. BUILDING DEPARTMENT (HOUSE MOVE HEARING) The Building Department submitted an application for a house move from Marvin Grove to move a 18' x 20' garage from 1017 Fisher Street to 606 Euclid Avenue. Since this structure is above the limits for moving without a hearing, the Board authorized the Building Department to contact the owner of the structure and make arrangements for a hearing. The Board alto instructed the Traffic Engineer to assist the owner and the move will be permitted, pending the advice and recommendation of the Traffic Engineer. SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( RE: HEARING GERMAN BENEFICIAL UNION) Mr. Grabarz appeared before the Board to report that a charge of violating the city fire prevention ordinance has been filed in City Court against a contractor who carried out demolition work on a condemned building at 610 N. Walnut St. The contractor named is Wayman A. Moran, 210 E. Indiana Avenue. Mr. Grabarz contended thtt the building was demolished last spring, said building being the German Beneficial Union at 610 N. Walnut Street and that the contractor has not removed dangerout and inflammable material after being ordered to do so. Mr. Moran and officials of the insurance company were ordered to appear this date before the Board to show cause why they had failed to comply with the above orders. After hearing the facts, the Board continued the case until August 28 to allow time for a hearing on the City_Court charge. TRAFFIC ENGINEER (ATTEND PLRDUE UNIVERSITY MEETING, Clem Hazinski requested permission to attend an Adult Crossing Guard Supervisors School at Lafayette, Indiana, sponsored by Purdue University. Mr. Hazinski has been requested to lecture during this school on `Survey For School. Safety" on August 23, 1961. Mr. Hazinski further stated there would be no cost to the City. Permission granted. POLICE DEPARTMENT (APPLICATIONS1 The following applications for the Police Department were accepted and ordered placed on file: Charles Ray Nance, Vincent Norman Koziatek. §PECIAL POLICE The Board approved the following for.Sp.ecial Police officers: Messrs. Harold Coleman and Garwood E. Schroff. SPECIAL POLICE BOND A Special Polide Bond for Robert Kenneth McCarthy was approved by the Board and ordered placed on file. CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE (EDWARD J. WHITE. INC. - FIRE STATION NO.13) A Certificate of Insurance covering all operations of the insured from Edward J. White, Inc. was accepted by the Board and ordered placed on file.
