Street Light Outage Report was accepted and ordered placed on file.
WEIGHTS & MEASURES REPORT
A Report from the Department of Weights & Measures was examined, accepted
and ordered placed on file.
FIRE DEPARTMENT (APPLICATION)
An application from Ronald Jerome. Janowczyk was accepted and ordered placed
on file.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT REPORT
Monthly Report for the Monty of May from the Building Department was accepted and
ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was
adjourned at 11:30 A.M.

A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, June 12,
1961 at 10:00 A.M. DST. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular
meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to
the various suppliers.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT (MAINLINE EXTRUSION. INC.)
Comes now Verner Lane, Building Commissioner, with a Plan of property and
buildings known as 2506 S. Main Street and results of survey of said property
which shows that a small portion extends on city property.
After examination by the Board approved the survey contingent upon the owner
supplying insurance for personal injury of $100,000 per person, $300,000
aggragate and $25,000 property damage - all indemnifying the City of South
Bend in the above amounts. Further, that no damages will be awarded to the
owner for the land or any part of the building that sets on said property
in case the City needs or takes said property.
RE: COMPLAINT - (ASSOCTATFS SALES AND SFRVTCF. TNC. AGATNST MATNUNF FXTRIIS
Comes now F. Jay Nimtz, attorney, representing Associates Sales and Service,
Inc. 2611 S. Main Street to register a complaint concerning the closing of the
alley running North and South from Fairview Street to Eckman and between
Main Street and Lafayette Street by Marvel -Construction Company, who is doing
work for Mainline. Extrusions, Inc. The contractor has placed dirt, building
blocks and other construction materials in this alley, acoording to Mr. Nimtz,
so that it is impossible for his client to use that portion of the alley.
Mr. Nimtz respectfully requested the Board to direct the Police Depaairtment
to take necessary action to open this alley for the use of his client and
others -in the vicinity. Mr. Nimtz further states that appeals to the con-
tractor and to Mainline Extrusions have been to no avail.
After due deliberation, the Board ruled that the alley be opened forthwith
and, .inasmuch as said construction was not covered by an Occupancy Permit,
that all construction be stopped and materials be removed from said alley.
Mr. Verner Lane, Building Commissioner, was notified of such directive.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION
With reference to a dwelling located at 1613 S. William Street, comes now
Mrs. Franklin, owner, and appeals demolition order of said dwelling.
Mrs. Franklin requested permission for a continuance of this order.
After hearing Mrs. Franklin, the Board granted Mrs. Franklin's request
for additional time to bring property up to standard and continued the
case until December 11, 1961.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER (TRAFFIC SIGNS)
A letter addressed to Mr. Verner Lane, Building Commissioner, was submitted
to the Board. The letter from Audiphone Company requested traffic signs
at the intersection of LaMonte Terrace and Park Avenue. Mr. Ackerman,
writer of the letter, requested that "Slow -Children Plalaing" signs be
installed at the four approaches to this intersection area.
The letter was referred to the Traffic Engineer for investigation and
recommendation.
FIRE DEPARTMENT (FIRST AID SIGNS)
Comes now the Fire Chief and requests (permission to erect "First Aid"
signs on all Fire Stations. Permission granted.
FIRE DEPARTMENT (APPLICATION)
An application for the Fire Department from Goldus Samuel Butler, Jr. was
accepted and ordered placed on file.
POLICE DEPARTMENT (MILITARY LEAVE)
Permission was granted to Officer James E. Robison for a leave of absence
for summer training in the active reserves from July 9 through July 23,
1961 in order to attend Ft. Riley Kansas training.
Permission was granted Officer Marvin 0. Mratz for a military leave to
attend Annual Field Training with the Marine Corps. reserve at Little Creek,
Virginia from July 22 to August 5, 1961.
POLICE DEPARTMENT (APPLICATION)
An application from Thomas Charles Kazmierczak was accepted and placed on
file.
RE: AWARDING OF BIDS ( FIRE STATION NO. 13)
Action on awarding of bids for remodeling of Fire Station No. 13 was
continued until next week, or June 19, 1961.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was
adjourned at 11:00 A.M.
