June 5, 1961
A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
June 5, 1961 at 10:00 A.M. DST. All members were present. Minutes
of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were
approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
_OPENING OF BIDS - FIRE STATION NO.13
The time now being after 10:00 A.M. it was so announced and bids for the
remodeling of Fire Station No. 13 were opened and read aloud. Proofs of
publication were found sufficient. The following bids were received:

FIRE DEPARTMENT PROMOTIONS
It was the decision of the Board to make the following promotions in
the Fire Department: Firemen Harold A. Schuttrow and Wilbur J. Bollinger
toot,heirankr:of:!Lieutenants, effective June 16, 1961 and Lt. Robert P.
Loughlin and Lt. Michael Kuminecz to the rank of Captains, effective
June 15, 1961.,
FIRE DEPARTMENT (APPLICATION)
An application for the Fire Department from John E. Kolacz was accepted
and ordered placed on file.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT (SUB -STANDARD DIVISION)
Comes now Mr. Mitchell, owner of property located at 2509 Longley and requests
additional time in which to repair this property. Case continued for 30 days.
POLICE DEPARTMENT (LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR ARMY RESERVE DUTY)
Officer Robert Riddle requested permission to the Board for leave in order
to attend summer training as an active member of the Army Reserve. He has
been ordered to camp at Camp McCoy,,Wis. the last week in June to the first
week in July - or from June 25 to July 8, 1961. Permission granted.
POLICE DEPARTMENT (APPLICATIONS)
An application for the Police Department from Dan Duval Thompson was accepted
and ordered placed on file.
POLICE DEPARTMENT (SPECIAL POLICE)
An application for Special -Police from Thomas E. Hoyer was approved by the
Board.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT (STREET LIGHT INSTALLATIONS)
The following street light installations were approved upon the recommendation
of Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of the Electrical Department:

An application from Ronald Jerome Janowczyk was accepted and ordered placed

BUILDING DEPARTMENT REPORT
Monthly Report for the Monty of May from the Building Department was accepted and
ordered placed on file.

A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, June 12,
1961 at 10:00 A.M. DST. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular
meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to
the various suppliers.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT (MAINLINE EXTRUSION. INC.)
Comes now Verner Lane, Building Commissioner, with a Plan of property and
buildings known as 2506 S. Main Street and results of survey of said property
which shows that a small portion extends on city property. .
After examination by the Board approved the survey contingent upon the owner
supplying insurance for personal injury of $100,000 per person, $300,000
aggragate and $25,000 property damage - all indemnifying the City of South
Bend in the above amounts. Further, that no damages will be awarded to the
owner for the land or any part of the building that sets on said property
in case the City needs or takes said property.
Comes now F. Jay Nimtz, attorney, representing Associates Sales and Service,
Inc. 2611 S. Main Street to register a complaint concerning the closing of the
alley running North and South from Fairview Street to Eckman and between
Main Street and Lafayette Street by Marvel -Construction Company, who is doing
work for Mainline. Extrusions, Inc. The contractor has placed dirt, building
blocks and other construction materials in this alley, acoording to Mr. Nimtz,
