HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/01/61 Board of Public Works MinutesMay 1, 1961 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, May 1, 1961 at 10:00 A.M. DST. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were ordered paid to the various suppliers. BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION (HEARINGS) With reference to the property owned by Wallace Mitchell and others, locaated at 2509 Longley, South Bend, a letter from Wallace Mitchell requested that the hearing on this case be postponed for 45 days due to the fact. that one of the owners was hospitalized and unable to appear.. Request granted and case continued for two'weeks. With reference to the Church at 1059 Burns Avenue, comes now Rev. Wilson and his attorney, Chester Allen and requests an extension of 30 days in which to complete this building. Permission granted. Comes now John Grabarz, of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department and requests permission to advertise for bids for demolition of property located at 835 S., Jackson St. This property is a P by A. (Purchased by Auditor) property and the County has no funds for Sikh demolition. Permission granted. A•hearing on property located at 324 W. Sample. Street which property is a restaurant, was continued for one week or until May 8, 1961. Demolition Orders have been sent 324 W. Garst Street. Permission demolition for said structure. to the owners of property located at is hereby granted to advertise for Mr. Grabarz informed the Board that property located at 513 and 515 E. Pennsylvania is now vacant. the Owner has been requested to repair or board up structures but has ignored requests and refuses to answer the door. Owner is Pearl Irene Darr. The Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department is hereby directed by the Board to send registered letter to owfier with an order to appear before the Board to show cause why previous orders have been ignored. Mr. Grabarz requested permission to advertise for bids for demolition of property located at 414 Melkus Court. Permission granted. TRAFFIC ENGINEER (TRAFFIC SIGNS) The Board approved the installation of the following traffic signs: Stop Sign installed on Center Street, northeast corner, at Mill Street. TRAFFIC ENGINEER ( CORRECTION OF MINUTES OF OCTOBER 1957) At the request of the Traffic Engineering Department, the following correction is hereby made to the Minutes of October 14, 1957, Page 666: Stop Signs on Columbus Court at Michigan and at Mill Streets; It should read: Stop Sign on Center Street, northeast corner, at Michigan Street Stop Sign on Center Street, southwest corner, at. -Mill Street. 1 1 POLICE -'.DEPARTMENT (REQUEST FOR POLICE SHOW) Comes now Patrolman Eugene Sikorski,,_1961 Show Chairman, and requests permission to hold the annual Police Show on July 16, 17, 18 and 19.. Permission granted. POLICE DEPARTMENT APPLICATIONS The following applications were received for the Police Department:John Andrew Mickels, Jr., Patrick Neil Malone. MONTHLY REPORT ( POLICE)„ The Report for the month of March,-1961 was submittedby the Police Department, accepted and ordered placed on file. BUILDING DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT The Monthly Report for the month of April, 1961 from the Building Department was accepted and ordered placed on file. FIRE DEPARTMENT APPLICATION An application for the Fire Department from Donn Allan Martin was accepted and ordered placed on.file.
