A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
November 21, 1960 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the
previous regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved
and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT (HEARINGS)
SUB -STANDARD DIVISION (HOUSE MOVES)
Comes now Jbhn Grabarz and requests permission to have house moved from
110 E. Irvington to 2114 S. William St. Joseph Chodzinski, representing
August Sukolich, George J. Nemeth, Mrs. Fedorow and Mrs. A. Mancini appeared
to remonstrate against said move. They were assured by the Board that the
house would be brought up to standard in accordance with a list of require-
ments issued by the Building Department within three months after moving
or before occupancy, whichever is sooner. If the condition issued by the
Building Department and approved by the Board are not followed, the house
will be torn down. The Building Department was directed by the Board to
so notify the owner of the above.
Mr. Grabarz also requested permission to move house from 1030 E. Donald
Street to 921 E. Fairview. Mrs. Tony Mathia and Mrs. Ethel Smith appeared
to remonstrate said move and inquire how house would be set on lot. Board
assured the remonstrators that the house would be set on the lot in
accordance with the code requirements of said lot. A list of requirements
D set up by the Sub -standard Division of the Building Department were read
by the Board and approved. It was the decision of the Board that the house
move be permitted, subject to the terms of the requirements and, further
that said house would be brought up to standard within three months or
before occupancy, whichever is first.
The Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department was directed that, in
the future, no work was to be done on the lots of prospective house moves,
such as placing equipment on lot, digging basements, etc. until moving
permit had been issued.
With reference to the property at 1618-1620 Dunham Street owned by Mr.
Wrieszien, a hearing on this case was held at which time Mr. Wrieszien
was present to show cause why he had not brought property up to standard.
The case was continued for one week.
With referdnce to the property at 2509 Longley, owned by Mr. Mitchell, a
hearing was held at which time Mr. Mitchell was asked to show cause why
he had not brought property up to standard by November 14, 1960 as directed.
Mr. Mitchell advised that it would take three months to bring property up
to standard. Case continued until February 21, 1961 or the Monday closest.
to that date.
With reference to property located at 413 Arthur Str. et,Mr. Grabarz requdsted
permission of the Board to advertise for bids for the demolition of said
.property.. Permission Granted.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT (REQUEST: HAROLD W. WEBER, INC.)
Comes now Verner Lane, Building Department Commissioner, and presents a Plan
prepared by Harold Weber, Inc., developer, requesting permission to erect
ornamental light posts at the intersection of Corby Street and Weber Square
and, further, requests that the City provide electrical current in lieu of
customary street lights.
After due consideration, it was the finding of the Board that the construction
of such posts upon public property and to provide the electrical current
for fixtures other than those normally supplied by the City would establish
an undesirable precedent. Request denied.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORT
Street Light Outage Report was accepted and ordered placed on file.
DETECFIVE AGENCY BOND
A Detective Agency Bond for Richard L. Crush and Home .Town Finance
Corporation was approved by the Board and ordered placed on file.
POLICE DEPARTMENT APPLICATIONS
The following applications for the Police Department were accepted and
ordered placed on file: Sammy D. Vaughn, 1036 W. Colfax Ave., Howard
Edward Warren, 120 N. Adams St.
FIRE DEPARTMENT APPLICATIONS
The following applications for the Fire Department were accepted and
ordered placed on file: Floyd N. Carter, 6112 Birdsell St., John Roy
Campbell, 1609 S. Fellows Street.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT
Following the recommendation of Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of the
Electrical Department, the Electrical Department was directed to install
a 4000 lumen street light at the intersection of Sylvan Lane and Scenic Drive.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was
adjourned at 11:00 A.M.
