A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, October
31, 1960 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous
regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered
paid to the various suppliers.
FIRE DEPARTMENT PROMOTIONS
Comes now Alex Andrzejewski, Fire Chief, and respectfully recommends the
Board's approval for the promotion of Captain Thomas Fitzgerald to the rank
of Battalion Chief, effective November 1, 1960. After due consideration, the
Board approved the recommendation as requested.
The Fire Chief also recommends the Board's approval of the promotion of
Battalion Chief Carl B. Lederetx to the rank of Assistant Chief, effective
November 1, 1060. -After consideration, the Board approves such promotion
as requested.
FIRE DEPARTMENT APPLICATION
Applications for the Fire Department were accepted and ordered placed on file
for the following: William L. Horvath, Albert R. Strom.
POLICE DEPARTMENT APPLICATION
Application for the Police Department for Goldus S. Butler, Jr. was accepted
and ordered placed on file.
The Monthly Report for September 1960 for the Police Department was accepted
and ordered placedc;on file.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORT
Street Light Outage Report was accepted and ordered placed on file.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT
Nich6las Horvath, Superintendent of the Electrical Department was directed
to install the following street lights at the following locations:
1. A 4000 lumen light at Linden and Huey Streets
2. A 2500 lumen light at Rose and Cushing Streets.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION
Mr. John Grabarz of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department came
before the Board with an Affidavit of August 8, 1960, signed by Mr. William
Odem, in which he states he will make required repairs to structure located
at 220 S. Cherry Street. If said repairs were not made building would be
demolished.
Mr. Grabarz informed the Board that no repairs had been made and requested
permission to proceed with demolition order. Permission granted. Mr.
Grabarz directed to notify Mr. Odem of this order.
ABOLISHMENT OF RAILROAD CROSSING WATCHMEN
The Traffic Engineer was directed to contact Mr. Ray Andrysiak and investigate
the proposed abolishment of Second Trick railroad watchmen on Eiling Avenue,
Calvert S�reet, Indiana Avenue and Sample Street, effective October 31, 1960.
Copy of a letter bringing this matter to the Board's attention was turned over
to the Traffic Engineer for investigation and report.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was
adjourned at 10:45 A.M.
