A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, October
24, 1960 at 9:00 A.M. CST. All members were present. Minutes of the
previous regular meeting were read and _approved. Vouchers were approved
and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
RE: COMPLAINT ( NEW YORK CENTRAL RAILROAD)
With reference to the complaints concerning chunks of iron falling from the
New York Central right-of-way on South Michigan Street, a letter from Mr. Marvin
A Jersild, General Attorney of the New York Central Railroad was directed
to the Board. Mr. Jersild advised the Board that he was initiating an
investigation and will do everything possible to rectify the difficulties.
POLICE DEPARTMENT DEMOTION
Police Chief J. Charles Dutrieux recommended that effective October 24, 1960
that Sergeant Edward Dudzinski be reduced to the rank of Patrolman and
duties re -assigned. Following the recommendation of the Police Chief, the
demotion was approved.
SPECIAL POLICE BONDS
A letter from Drewrys Limited U.S.A. Inc. enclosing Special Police Bonds for
two Special Police officers was submitted to the Board. The following
Special Police bonds were approved and ordered placed on file: Robert S. Kizer
and Fred F. Miller
POLICE DEPARTMENT APPLICATIONS
The following applications for the Police Department were accepted and ordered
placed on file: Norbert J. Hechlinski, Richard R. Strozewski, Richard P.
Romanski, Hoan Williams, Anthony P. Perusich.
FIRE DEPARTMENT APPLICATION
Application for the Fire Department for William Victor Cira was accepted and
ordered placed on file.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ( STREET LIGHTS,
Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of the Electrical Department was directed
to:'install 4000 lumen street lights at the following locations:
426 West Navarre St.
711 South Arnold St.
733 South Arnold St.
1008 Evergreen Lane
3700 Brentwood Drive
1250 Kinyon Avenue
BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION
Comes now John Grabarz of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department
with the following business for the approval of the Board:
With reference to the property at 1001 S. Carroll Street, Mr. Grabarz requests
permission to advertise for bids to demolish structure. Permission granted.
Mr. Grabarz informed the Board that the owner of the property at 522 E. Keasey
Street had notified the Building Department that she has secured a bank loan
and building permit has been issued to repair the building at the above addrdss.
Mr. Grabarz informed the Board, with reference to the property at 3821 W.
Washington Avenue, owned by Mr. Dobbs, that the Building Department had
received a*fetter from the family of Mr. Dobbs, now deceased, with the
request that, inasmuch as Mr. Dobbs had recently passed away, more bime be
given before a hearing -'is set concerning the property. Board directed Mr.
GrabarzLto notify the family of Mr. Dobbs that the case will be continued
until January 9, 1961 at which date structure at the above address shall have
been repaired and brought up -.to standard.
A progress report -on structure located at 313 N. Scott Street was submitted
to the Board. This case was continued from October 31 1960 to October 24.
Mr. Grabarz reported to the Board that no work had been done on this structure.
Case was continued until January 91 1961 at which time property must be
brought up to standard.
With reference to dwelling located at 205 Studebaker Street, owned by Mr.
Winston, Mr. Grabarz reported that Mr. Winston was ordered to appear before
the Board on this date for a hearing but he failed to appear, and, to date,
no work has been done on the structure. Mr. Grabarz requested permission
to for demolishment of said structure. Permission granted.
Street Light Outage Report was examined and ordered placed on file.
Application for Building Permit Re: No. 19054 was accepted and ordered
placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was
adjourned at 10:30 A.M.
