A monthly report from the Division of Weights and Measures was examined by the 'Board and ordered placed on file. Street Light Outage Report was examined and ordered placed on file. The following applications for the Fire Department were accepted and ordered placed on file: Lorenzo Hill, Robert E. Cornelis, Dennis M. Tubbs, James P. Makielski, Richard Orlowski. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 11:30 A.M. /17 Attest: Antho . Sabo, Clerk September 26, 1960 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, September 26, 1960 at 9:00 A.M. CST. All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. BUILDING DEPARTMENT - HOUSE MOVE Comes now Vernon Lane and requests permission for moving a dwelling from 2318 S. Michigan Street to 218 E. Altgeld Street. The Board approved the move of this dwelling from the Michigan Street address to 921 E. Fairview at the meeting of September 19, 1960 and set up the requirements to be followed to conform to the Building Code. Since the house will now be moved to another location, the Board directs that the same requirements be met since this new address is also an "A" residential area;. Remonstrators appeared before the Board with questions concerning this proposed move. Their objections were overcome by the requirements set up by the Building Department. The Board further specified that the mover must file insurance indemnifying the residents in the area in case of damage. The mover, Lewis Mitschelen, also appeared before. the Board and assured the Board that a licensed tree trimmer is.employed by him so that any trees that must be trimmed will be trimmed and balanced to the best of his ability. .The move is permitted, upon the stipulation that all requirements as set up by the Building Department and the Board be met. BUILDING DEPARTMENT - AWARDING OF BIDS Comes now Vernon Lane, Building Department Commissioner and advises the Board that as a result of advertising for bids for demolition of property the B & 0 Wrecking Company had submitted the following bids for the following locations: 805 S. Bendix Drive Without Salvage $325.00 With Salvage 200.00 730 S. Carlisle St. Without Salvage $375.00 With Salvage 275.00 The owners will decide whether to include salvage. The Board, having been advised by Mr. Lane, that the above bids are fair and in order, directs that the B & 0 Wrecking Company be awarded both bids. SUB -STANDARD DIVISION BUILDING DEPARTMENT (HEARINGS) Comes now Mr. John Grabarz of the Sub=Standard Division of the Building Department and requests that the hearing set for this date for Mr. Fair, owner of the property located at 522 E. Keasey Street be continued for 30 days, inasmuch as Mr. Fair has prospect of sale of this property. Request granted and case continued until October 24, 1960. With reference to the property owned by Mr. Mitchell located at 2509 Longley, the Board previously granted permission for the Department to advertise for bids to have structure demolished. Mr. Grabarz advises the Board that, inasmuch as Mr. Mitchell has recently purchased this property and may be able to bring it up to standard that the demolition order be removed. The Board grants request and case is continued for 45 days or until November 14, 1960 at which time structure must be brought up to standard or be demolished. With reference to the property at 1317 S. 31st St., owned by Mr. Elliot, Mr. Grabarz requested a continuance of this case. The Board grants request and case is continued to October 10, 1960 With reference to the property located at 1001 S. Carroll Street, letters requesting parties 1nvolvdd to show cause as to why this property has not been demolished have been sent but replies have not yet been received. The Board continues this case for two weeks or until October 10, 1960. With reference to property located at 313 N. Scott Street, the owner has been informed of repairs. necessary to bring property up to standard. Property is now boarded up pending the fulfilment of these orders. Mr. Grabarz advises the Board that there is the possibility of the sale of this property. The Board continues this case until October 24, 1960. With reference to,the hearing of Mr. N. Winston, concerning the property at 205'Studebaker Street, Mr. Grabarz reported to the Board that no work has been done on this property to brong it up to standard according to an order allowing 60 days to do this wori, or until...September 26, 1960. Mr. Grabarz is directed to advise Mr. Winston to appear before the Board on October 3, 1960 or Board will take action on the disposition of this property. ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - STREET LIGHTS (HARTMAN ADDITION) Comes now Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of the Electrical Department, and recommends the following locations for 4000 lumen street light installations: Elwood and Sheridan Sts. Elwood and Woodbine Sts. Elwood and North Cove Sts. Woodbine and St. John's Way 3930 St. John's Way Ardmore and Brentwood Dr. 3811 Surrey Lane The above in Hartman Addition 125 S. Bendix Dr. 1812 S. Columbia St. 2505 W. MOnroe St. The Board approves the installations. TRAFFIC ENGINEER REQUEST Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, requested permission to attend a Seminar for Pedestrian Protection to be held in Springfield, Ill. on Ocrober 6 and 7t h, 1960. The Chicago Motor Club has asked Mr. Hazinski to speak at this Seminar. Expenses for the trip will be paid for by the Chicago Motor Club. Permission granted. POLICE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST Chief J. Charles Dutrieux was directed to attend the International Association of Chiefs of Police meeting in Washington, D.C. beginning September 30, 1960 and J 1 returning to the City of ::South Bend on or before October 9, 1960. The following applications for the Fire Department were accepted and ordered placed on file: Paul J. Horvath, Anthony P. Perusich. z Application for Police Auxiliary :School Patrol from Henrietta M. Tuttle was accepted and ordered placed on file. The appointment of Margaret Rybak, 2205 S. Arnold Street as a Special Police Officer for the City of South Bend was approved by the Board. FIRE DEPARTMENT PROMOTION Alex Andrzejewski, Fire Chief, recommended the promotion of Lieutenant Paul Flary to the rank of Captain to be assigned to the Instruction Department, effective October 1, 1960. Mr. Flary was appointed to the Department"July 16, 1946, promoted to the rank of Lieutenant January 19 1951. Promotion was approved. The monthly report for August, 1960, from the Police Department was accepted and ordered placed on file. Street Light Outage Reports were examined and ordered placed on file.
