A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, August
8, 1960 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous
meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to
the various suppliers.
Comes now W. Joseph Doran, Assistant Fire.Chief, and requests that, in order
to be able to devote the proper time to the office of Secretary of the
Firemen's Pension Fund to which he was recently elected, that his resignation
as Assistant Fire Chief be accepted and that he be appointed to the rank 6f
Captain with assignment to Station No. .7. The Board granted the request,
effective August 16, 1960.
The following applicants, having,successfully passed all required tests,
were duly appointed to the South Bend Fire Department: Joseph Louis Szucsits,
Melvin Eugene Lesniewicz, Jerome Joseph Badur� George 3erome W itucki,
effective August 169 1960. The above applicants were al€la,:unanimously
accepted for membership in the Firemen's Pension Fund,,having qualified in
all prescribed requirements. The membership will coincide with the
departmental assignment of the appointees.

An application from Jeanette Agnes Townsend, 1421 W. Linden St., for Police
Auxiliary School Patrol was examined by the Board and ordered placed on file.
A Monthly Report for July, 19609 from the Weights and Measures Department was
examined and ordered placed on file.
A petition from Arthur N. Lucas and others for a street light on Columbia
Street from South Street to Bronson was referred to the Electrical Department
for examination and report.
An application for the Police Department from William Frederick Carrico was
accepted and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 11:45 A.m.
